Help Finding an Slim ODD
Help Finding an Slim ODD
I have a case with a slim slot avaliable and looking for a slim internal bd drive that supports UHD.
I see in the list the LG line of BU30N, BU40N, BU50N the only one that is marked as friendly the 30N i can't seem to find anywhere.
Can i buy a 50N or 40N and will it work? Could i flash it to make it work? Are there any other slim drives that are UHD friendly?

This is where a SATA > USB enclosure comes in handy.

Re: Help Finding an Slim ODD
I currently have two Asus drives in VANTEC USB 3.0 enclosures. But I would like to be able to add a slim drive to the PC so I could rip three UHD BD titles concurrently. I'd rather get an internal one if possible then another drive in an external case. Because it's much cheaper for the internal drive.
Although I should have picked up a third Asus in MAy, when they still had a $25 rebate. I recently replaced my three 3th/4th gen Core i5 PCs with 8th Gen core i5 PCs. But they all have slim DVD drives in them. And I haven't used a DVD drive since I started ripping my BDs in 2009.

I was looking into this myself. Best I could find was this: https://www.impactcomputers.com/bu30n.html
Take note that it's a supposedly refurbished unit and, well, I don't know anything about that site. Purchase at your own potential peril.

Just so we're clear that is click bait. the proprietor of this establishment does not have a bu30n in any form to sell. trust me on this.

I stand corrected. & now better understand why some are suggesting a consolidation of all this info. Thx.
Re: Help Finding an Slim ODD
going to give any BU30N a try until i find one that will dump a UHD friendly build of the slim drive firmware.

Re: Help Finding an Slim ODD
With the unlocked flasher I was able to both cross flash (to the Asus Bw16) and flash within the same family (LG friendly with ns50 service code) but neither enabled UHD friendliness, past reading the disc. Would still bomb out during encrypt/decrypt challenge).Billycar11 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 08, 2018 9:43 amdid the bu40ns work out? if not i think i know how to do it but the unlocked flasher wont do it i think it all needs to be done manually

I ended up putting it back to the 1.00 for bu40n and ripping a couple 1080 blu-Rays.
Teddy insists BU30N firmware would enable friendliness the BU40N which is great in theory but for the life of me I can’t find a soul who has one to dump, a copy of then firmware, even a place to buy one. I did manage to encourage this one site that had a refurb listed to admit no they reallh don’t have one for sale.
So I’ll put it out there anyone hoarding a BU30N slim we speak your name. Please consider sharing a dump with us if you feel the need for compensation that is of course a topic we can discuss.
Bill shoot me a chat or email or something i am at your command!
