My "friendly" UHD drive is on FW 3.02, and it flies.......It's the version before ASUS put in the block........It's been a while since I ripped a disc, but I know it is fast.....

I had to sign up to thank to thank OP. I bought a "friendly" drive without looking too much into it, got a 3.02 Asus that wouldn't rip ...
I followed the OP and had no issues. My drive is now ripping a UHD disc with MakeMKV
Thank you TeddyRaspin

I can make some time for a phone call to assist in getting you setup!
That goes for anyone here.

I have been trying to get my new asus bw-16d1ht to flash to an older firmware (shipped wiht 3.02); but my motherboard wont let me switch to IDE for the sata ports. It only gives me the option of AHCI or RAID. Anyone have any luck with flashing these another way??

Re: 100% Firmware Downgrade for ASUS BW-16D1HT and LG BH16NS55
you did need to do the data mover if you dont use the asus tool for 3.01 and if it was a clean 3.01 with no calibration data, if it was just a dump from another drive with cal data it will most likely work but not 100% guaranteed most cals work kinda the same could be used to unbrick a drive if you dont have original cal data but not recommended . you can restore the original bins to the drives with out the need for the data mover
but really though why am i helping the competition i like how soon a i posted i was flashing drives for people that couldn't do it. a few hours later you update your post that you do that too i purposely was not selling things that you did i was not selling people new drives just if they were stuck with one, i was actually going to post if you dont currently have a drive to go to you 2 guys for one

This was fantastic, thanks so much for writing this up.
I was able to flash my Asus BW-16D1HT from 3.03 to 3.02 and it is happily reading disks now!
I used the DOS method with the Free Hex Editor FRHED.
One thing that should be updated, the file to download for the "DOS method" with DOSFLASH is DOSFLASH_LG.zip, not DOSFLASH.zip.
I had to try multiple computers, but in the end, everything worked well.
Thanks!

Re: 100% Firmware Downgrade for ASUS BW-16D1HT and LG BH16NS
i mean realistically it is not that hard just kinda tedious the only real reason for not being able to do this is if you cant switch your pc to ide mode or you cant boot off a usb drive. even if a competently automated tool comes out you will still probably need to be able to switch your pc to ide mode it seems you need to flash these drives in ide mode not ahci/raid mode so if you one of those factors are limiting you send it out to be flashed or buy one.
ps the windows 7pe here is garbage use any other 32bit pe of windows and you will be much better off, this one sometimes hides drives when its scanning for drivers and in the middle of a flash that is bad
not self promoting but others are offering to do this for you.

And what if I just wanted to buy a drive, and lived in Cleveland for example?

Re: 100% Firmware Downgrade for ASUS BW-16D1HT and LG BH16NS55
I just checked my PC (Win 10) and the system only has ACHI or RAID for the SATA controller options.
I am in the market for either a new drive downgraded that will properly handle the UHD disks (preferably a new ASUS BW-16D1HT with firmware 3.01) or someone who can perform the downgrade on the drive I have (ASUS BW-16D1HT with firmware 3.03)
Please PM me the details on how I can get this done and costs. My first choice is to buy a drive to avoid the shipping hassle, but it depends on the price.
