LG BE16NU50 irregular noise when not in use

Hi all, my first post here!

Just got a brand new LG BE16NU50, unfortunately w/1.02 firmware, so I guess I'm out of luck reading UHD discs.

Anyway, noticed it makes irregular noise, although not in use and no disc in the player. It's as if it tries to read something that isn't there, at the same time the blu light briefly lights up. This seems really odd, or maybe it's perfectly normal? It's attached to an iMac w/ macOS, USB3 port.

Anyone with the same experience?

Absolutely, random grinding and grinding, really sounds likes these things are in pain, trying to read a disc that doesn't exist.
