Hello everyone.
I'm new to the forum and also to Blu-Ray ripping, which I've actually never done before, although I have some experience with DVDs.
My goal is to make copies of my Blu-Ray collection, so I only need a Blu-Ray reader for my PC.
The two models I specified on the subject are the ones more easily to purchase in my country, although I can always try to buy a different one online from abroad.
I'm favouring the Asus BC-12D2HT which is only a Blu-Ray reader. It's cheaper then the other model and it completely suits my needs, since I don't need a writer, only a reader.
The question is, will it work with MakeMKV and will I be able to rip my Blu-Rays with it?
If searched this forum and googled the internet about the two models before posting this message.
What I found was that the Asus BW-16D1HT Writer, seems to apparently be a solid choice.
On the other hand, the Asus BC-12D2HT Reader, my favourite to buy, unfortunately there isn't much information about it on the net.
If any of you guys could give me an advice, I would appreciate it immensely.
Thanks to everyone who care to reply.
Cheers!
*Edited to correct the name of the reader model to BC-12D2HT

I don't have experience with either of those specific drives though have had success with Asus in general. You may want to check out these threads:

However, if I were in the market for a new drive today, I'd certainly want one that could handle UHD discs, to prepare me for future UHD rips. Check out this thread and the UHD forum.

Re: Buying a blu-ray reader for PC, Asus BW-16D1HT or BC-12D
Thanks yorgo,
According to the link you provided about the UHD discs, both models support it, which is quite surprising because they were supposed to read only DVDs and Blu-Rays.
And they are one of the few of the "Friendly Drives" recommended to rip UHD discs.
So, I suppose I can go for the BC-12D2HT reader.
Thanks for the help!

Just to leave a feedback.
I've got the Asus BC-12D2HT reader and I successfully ripped my first Blu-Ray!
As for the UHD discs, if a get my hands on one of those, I'll give it a try.
Thanks again to yorgo for the tip and hope this helps someone else.

I have the Asus BW-16D1HT drive. It arrived yesterday and it is on the friendly list and I have already ripped a UHD disc (Wonder Women). Just as a point of interest, it is not just a reader but will also burn standard discs and bluray discs. In fact, my unit came with a BD-r disc from Amazon. Am very happy with this drive.
