Wreck-It Ralph, earlier Collectors edition

Post by Someoneelse »

I have a copy of Wreck-It Ralph that I picked up not long after it came out on video. This is the dual disc collectors edition. I know that I ripped this once a long time ago, but it seems that any remotely recent version of MakeMKV chokes and dies on it about halfway through. I get a whole lot of read error messages and it fails. Players have no issue with this disc.

I did some digging in the forums and found that this was a common issue on a lot of Disney Blurays from 2014. The suggestion was to try v1.8.9, but that is no longer available on the older versions page. Did the devs ever figure out what kind of crap Disney was pulling when they slipped this copy protection in there? Is there any kind of workaround or solution that can be tried?

Code: Select all

Error 'Scsi error - MEDIUM ERROR:L-EC UNCORRECTABLE ERROR' occurred while reading '/BDMV/STREAM/00900.m2ts' at offset '186906624'
This is the key - the drive is having problems reading the disk. It doesn't matter what version of MakeMKV you have, if the drive says, "No".

Because the error moves, though, you may have a chance, even if another cleaning doesn't help. Go to Preferences->IO and increase the retry count.

But I would personally try cleaning/waxing the disk. I use Pledge furniture polish to do this. I spray it on, rub it in with a clean finger until it starts to thicken up, then use a soft cotton cloth to wipe all the excess off. Getting the excess off is important, because it can accumulate on your laser lens if you use too much.
