I take it simply copying the contents to the hard drive failed as well? If so, it's your drive. You could try cleaning the heads. You can get a head cleaner from various electronics stores.

Well, you've eliminated the ripping software as a possible cause. A couple of things to verify before you buy a new drive.

Some disks also have defects purposely placed into the disc. These 'dummy' tracks are not read by your player, and are there to mess with you as part of some copy-protection schemes. Make sure you are ripping only the main movie. I had only one title showing on mine, but I filter out tracks less than 20 minutes.

Try cleaning the heads. It could just be a bit of dust.

As a last option, if you have the capability, you can try flashing the rom if there is an update available.

Yes I am only ripping the main movie.

its seems that whenever it gets to the 625.m2ts it starts giving errors.

Very frustrating.

on a side note is this a good drive

You might try and find out if the drive has any updates available. I've had a few dives in the past that a flash to the rom would resolve. I'm fortunate in that the BD-Rom I bought is similar to a laptop drive where the heads are exposed when the tray is ejected and easily cleaned (but also prone to getting more dust on them).

So far as I'm aware there is no copy protection on blu-ray that messes with file structure which would cause these issues.

If you simply can't copy the files off the disc then the chances are the disc is bad. It's good you've returned it and tried with another disc but the fact that it's failing doesn't really point to the drive yet, bad discs come in batches when they're pressed.

If you can, try it on a friends machine, but statistically speaking the chances are you still just have a bad disc.

while I agree I find trying 3 discs front different stores, and they all freeze at the same spot.

Just frustrating as I am running out of returns to stores.

cleaned the disc and cleaned the blu-ray drive.

Now makemkv gives this error in log.

Same error on same MTS when copying the files in the OS rather than in MakeMKV after cleaning the drive?

That error is direct from the disc. trying to do a full backup.

I have tried so many things. The only thing is left is to get a different drive.

Considering it would be your fourth disc replacement if you did so, I would tend to agree. If there were others reporting the same error after the updated SVQ I would suggest you wait but the updated file resolved my issues, and I haven't seen any other posts of the same. You could always ensure whoever you bought it from has a decent return policy.

Was able to make a encrypted backup iso of the whole disc, mounted it with Virtual Clone drive.

Then got these errors while just trying to load it in makemkv

DEBUG: Code 8 at }a59i:ul%6`jIs(0D+:121262003
Error 'Scsi error - ILLEGAL REQUEST:INVALID FIELD IN CDB' occurred while issuing SCSI command A30..0020..03F to device 'SPTI:\Device\CdRom6'

DEBUG: Code 0 at }a59i:ul%6`jIs(0D+:121263291

Keeps going on after that.

No idea if you can use a virtual drive without any issues. MakeMKV may not play well with that setup. You would ping Mike to see if he's ever tried using it with a virtual drive.
