Cars fails

Post by macefsf »

I have tried to clean the disc several times and it still fails. Is it possible to skip any bad reads and move on?

Here is the captured debug file

Hardware players have software that skips over bad sectors, and try to render a "mostly complete" version of bad disks. Ripping software (such as MakeMKV) do not do this, because it causes problems later on. They're dedicated to making a CORRECT copy of the data on the disk.

There are several options for dealing with disks that are dirty or scratched. Subtle scratches can be dealt with by waxing. More visible scratches can require polishing the surface with an abrasive. If a disk takes more than toothpaste to "polish out", it is best to have it done by someone who knows what they're doing and has a polishing machine. Most places that rent disks will have them, and may polish disks you own for a fee.

Does the debug log say that disk is scratched? It doesn't look scratched or dirty. I cleaned it to try to make sure that wasn't the problem.

This is for the kids, so I think they can live with a few dropped frames. I am sure they have the dialog memorized to, so they won't be missing anything in the plot to the movie.

Just getting the ";-(" from cdparanoia back in the day usually wasn't enough to make me go and rebuy the CD (http://www.xiph.org/paranoia/faq.html#progbar).
I would rather make the choice of wanting a correct copy or buying the same movie again.

I did just try 1.8.4 and it still seems to have the problem but I didn't get the full debug log.

The debug won't say, "This Disk Is Scratched", but it will say things like MEDIA ERROR, SEEK ERROR, File YYYY is corrupt at XXXXX, and stuff like that.

I am sorry but I thought I had include the link to the test dump in the first post, but it seems I must have screwed it up.

Here is the last bit of the logs from the window as well.

I don't see a MEDIA ERROR or SEEK ERROR. Just "corrupt or invalid".
But I also see that message a lot on disc's that do complete correctly, so I tend to ignore it. I also bumped the "Read Retry Count" to 99, but it only seems to read the last one/offset once.

I've converted 2 copies of Cars - both come up on my Oppo as audio not supported - doesn't matter if I try to select another audio track.

The media file is damaged /the disc is. You dont need to be able to see that it is damaged.

What if you start playing the movie and after that opens makemkv and try to copy the disc to you hdd?
