Blu Ray subtitles handbrake

Post by Rmafive »

Hi guys,

I recently downloaded the nightly build of handbrake in order to be able to
include subtitles in my blu ray conversions. Before using handbrake, I use
MakeMKV to create an mkv file of a blu ray disk. When I create the mkv
file I select only the forced subtitle and I do not check the main subtitle
option above it. Yet, when I do this handbrake does not appear to
recognize any available subtitles (it only shows the "foreign audio search"
option). Shouldn't I be able to get a forced subtitle stream from makemkv
that the nightly build of handbrake can use?

There are issues with how MakeMKV and Handbrake handle the "forced" subtitles. At present, it is best to select the main subtitle track in MakeMKV, and let Handbrake pick out the forced ones.

Of course, there are some examples that defy both programs as far as "forced only" subtitles are concerned... Avatar comes to mind.

When I use media inspector on movies where I only selected the forced subtitles I do not see any subtitle streams, yet on movies where I selected both I see the stream. I have so many movies saved where I only selected forced subtitles in makemkv. Will I just have to run all of these movies through makemkv again, or will handbrake ever be able to see the subtitles makemkv saves when clicking only the forced option.
