Verbatim 43890 or ASUS SBW-06D5H-U

Post by Dwarf52 »

Hi

I live in the UK and am fairly new to this forum, i had a Verbatim 43888 drive but it decided to stop working.
I was looking to buy a new drive which will be mainly used for reading 4K UHD`s but also burning M-Disks.
Far as i can see these two drives are suitable for the above (but they need their firmware to be flashed).

I have read the forum but my head is hurting now as Im not sure which drive I should buy:
Verbatim 43890 - cost about £160
ASUS SBW-06D5H-U - cost about £120

Ouwith the costs I would prefer to buy the drive that easiset to flash and is the most reliable one (I did read that the Asus cannot flashed if the firmware is after 2020).

Any assistance/guidance would be appreciated

Thanks

Both should be BU40N's and easy to flash so no real diff. The ASUS used to be a pain to flash when they had Pioneer drives inside but they have been BU40N's for most of this year.
Cheers :D

i bought 2 sets of verbatim 43888 with Original Pioneer UD04's in them.. now both have failed (Can only read Audio CD's!!) The laserheads i have cleaned it numerous times, but to no avail, it must be the worst ever pioneer drive made. The UD03 or UD02 ( both models i have successfully flashed to become a UD04 already ) that i have are more reliable and sturdy compared to a UD04.

His first line is regarding a verbatim 43888, so i believe its relevant. (yeah maybe he received his verbatim 43888 with a lg bu40 in it) who knows? oh well, if i recall correctly. i have seen many posts regarding the Verbatim 43888 with a pioneer UD04 with lots of issues.

He said his 43888 no longer works so is looking at the 43890 and SBW-06D5H-U, so no, your comment is not relevant to this topic.
