Did you see my recent post? I'm experiencing exactly the same issue out of the box. It would seem to be more than coincidence. Do you have any advice on the situation? I fear that something has changed with the drive making it impossible to flash and that others may experience this if purchasing the drive from BHPhoto using the link you provided in the Ultimate UHD Guide.

Don't get me wrong. I know things can change on a dime and I certainly don't hold you responsible. I'm just hoping to get some feedback and a path to a solution. If there is not one and I have to find another drive, so be it.
If that's the case try removing the drive from the case and see what happens

They should be bu40n and work.with UHD once flashed
But as I said I have flashed multiple of these and they worked with the 1.05 fw
It's a bu40n (AXJA3HB) manufactured 07/30/3036, ROM version BN14, Drive Rev. A0. Could the SATA-USB bridge be causing the issue? If so, do you know of a SATA to USB cable that is known to work? I've got a SATA to USB adapter for hard drives but of course it doesn't work with the 7+6 slimline SATA port.

P.S. I tried to attach a photo of the drive but couldn't figure out how to attach it to the message.
yes the guide has some that work see below
3036? they are adding 1010 years like they are adding 100 to the fw date lol
Buy a drive from the guide and video maker: viewtopic.php?t=17831

Hi, I'm having issues as well. Just got one of the buffalo drives from B&H, It's a BU40N, Rom BN14, Rev A0. I can't get v1.0.0 to stick on it. It's currently on 1.0.3 and I've tried flashing DE_LG BU40N_1.00, HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU40N-1.03-NM00000-211810241934, DE_LG_BP50NB40-NB50_1.03_MK, and HL-DT-ST_BD-RE_BU40N_1.00_OmniDrive-1.0.4 with and without the boot loader checkbox in SDFtool Flasher 1.3.6 but nothing seems to have any effect. I have tried with 3 different drive enclosures now.

edit: I dug out an old windows 8-era laptop and tried to flash using linux as well. no dice.
i wonder if this post could be of any help. will poke at it more tomorrow.

edit #2: nevermind, I plugged it back into my windows PC after doing that on the old laptop running linux and now redumper was able to flash it with omnidrive just fine. strange.

Just wanted to chime in that I received this drive from B&H today. I’ll caveat that I’m completely new to all of this but here is my experience.

First I tried out the drive by ripping a standard BD to verify it was working.

Next I tried to do a little research before flashing the drive. I read that MakeMKV 2.0.0 may not work for flashing and that one should use 1.18.4 instead. I uninstalled 2.0.0 and installed 1.18.4.

Following the drive guide, I flashed my drive using the SDFtool Flasher and used the BU40N 1.03 firmware from the “All You Need” zip file linked in the guide. I reopened MakeMKV and confirmed the drive was patched.

Next I closed MakeMKV and inserted a UHD disk (Dune Part One). I waited for Windows 11 to recognize the disc and then I started MakeMKV again. I just completed a successful rip and watched part of the movie to confirm.

Excellent! Well done! This is what happens when you do a little research instead if diving right in!!
Cheers :D
