While WH16NS60 1.02MK (and BW-16D1HT 3.10MK) would probably work fine as well, there is MK version of BC-12B1ST b 3.11 in the "official" MK firmware pack.

Apparently WH16NS60 1.02MK has no "sleep bug". (I don't remember if it has "jamless playback" -- which is "bad" -- like the BU40N firmware though.)

I didn't know the Asus BC-12B1ST b could be flashed to other player firmwares. I had flashed it to the MK version of BC-12B1ST b 3.11 from the "official" MK firmware pack. It read 4k UHD discs, but was very unreliable, failing to rip several discs that my Pioneer breezed through. Would the drive be more reliable with WH16NS60 1.02MK or BW-16D1HT 3.10MK?

Barley, when you say it failed on several discs, was it throwing read errors partway through or just refusing to start? (also did you try the same discs on a different SATA cable or port... i've had a dodgy cable cause proper weird stuff before). Which Pioneer have you got, out of interest?

Some discs would rip successfully on the first try. Others, I would get errors mid-rip. Washing the discs (sometimes multiple times) sometimes worked. Other discs never completed successfully. Swapped it for a Pioneer BDR-209 flashed to BDR-S11J-X, and every disc ripped successfully every time (same SATA cable and port).

I'd say it's at best 50/50. AFAIK BC-12B1ST b is quite an old model, meaning that the drive is probably quite old, if not worn. While in certain cases changing firmware (more specifically downgrading to an older firmware, I think, like in the case of BU40N) allegedly helps in making a drive works better for certain disc / in certain OS, it's not very likely going to help in this case. Also Pioneer drives are known to work better in most cases anyway.
