Noob mode - enabled.
I purchased a Verbatim drive from somebody on these forums, only know their real name, not the poster name. Pretty sure the seller was located in Australia. Purchased on the 9th of June 2026.
The drive is enabled to be able to "back up" DVD - UHD discs via Make MKV. It functions for DVD and BD, but any UHD disc I try gives the following error messages.
Error 'Scsi error - ILLEGAL REQUEST:COPY PROTECTION KEY EXCHANGE FAILURE - KEY NOT PRESENT' occurred while issuing SCSI command A40..002000800 to device 'SPTI:\Device\CdRom1'
LibreDrive compatible drive is required to open this disc - video can't be decrypted.
Failed to open disc
In Make MKV info, it says;
Drive Information
OS device name: \Device\CdRom1
Current profile: BD-ROM
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BD-RE BU40N
Revision: 1.00
Serial number: MO5P5MG3004
Firmware date: 2116-12-20 15:28
Bus encryption flags: 17
Highest AACS version: 81
LibreDrive Information
Status: Enabled
Drive platform: MT1959
Firmware type: Original (unpatched)
Firmware version: 1.00
DVD all regions: Yes
BD raw data read: Yes
BD raw metadata read: Yes
Unrestricted read speed: Yes
So, pretty sure the problem is with the user, figure there is something I am doing wrong, or some setting I missed or do not know about. I've been reading and researching and trying to figure it out for myself, but the solution to this one eludes myself.
Any help for a noob?
Verbatim BU40N - video can't be decrypted.

Crumbs. Well I never would have thought of that.
Plugged the optical drive into one of the Motherboard direct USB's and now it's happily backing up a UHD.
Thank you.

Yes, you should never use case ports for an optical drive. Always use ports direct from the motherboard or an AC self-powered USB hub of at least 24w.Audible wrote: Wed Oct 28, 2026 9:23 am Crumbs. Well I never would have thought of that.
