old DVD archive - doesn't run - anymore??

Post by JoergWausW »

I have a complete DVD-structure archived as an nrg-Archive (Nero). VLC player plays it (no disk menues shown, navigating to DVD Menu just starts the video)
In 2017 I - probably - see below - extracted the archive and ran the DVD-structure with makeMKV's version of that time.
Today with the current version 2.0.0, it fails.

Manual mode shows (german version):
***
Titles count : 1
Titelinformationen
1: 1/1 - 1 Kapitel 0:29:30 1 cell(s)
***
I enter "1:1", and MakeMKV logs this, the log is even shorter using just "1"
***
MakeMKV v2.0.0 win(x64-release) gestartet (=started)
***

More detailed thoughts and information:
I guess, if the archive was broken on my hard drive, it couldn't be extracted without error message (or even at all). I tried it with VIDEO_TS.BUP renamed to VIDEO_TS.IFO, same result. If there was a damage, it would be in the video stream files.
I have a few similar extracted archives, that work fine today and need manual mode to work, a few other similar extracted archives open right away.
In 2017 I extracted the archives and encoded the outcome using StaxRip. I assume I didn't have issues then, because the output files from StaxRip have continuous time stamps. Sadly, I didn't keep the MakeMKV-output files then. I wanted to re-encode the videos, because I use different filters in StaxRip now, and got stuck with this issue.

Trying to open the three VOB-files in StaxRip using "merge files" , fails with Script error in a current (not the latest) version 2.4.4, but it works with version 1.6.0.0 (maybe I used this workflow back then)

TMPGEnc Smart Renderer doesn't open the disk folder either ("unsupported file"). I didn't use this program in 2017...

Remaining Question: should MakeMKV be able to open this disk structure?
