I'm just going to post this here as it seems relevant. I also have the LG BH16NS55 with 1.05 firmware for BH version not the WH one.
I've noticed a number of new UHD discs don't work and I just clean them with one of those disinfectant wipes, rinse it in water then push it down onto some paper towel. If it looks like there is any chemical residue on there I repeat those steps until it's clear.
I have noticed sometimes that once the LG comes across a disc it can't read, it will refuse to play that disc even after it has been cleaned. The kicker is you can put a different disc in and it will read it but go back to the first one and it won't. I'm probably getting close to ripping 2000 discs in total with easily over 100 UHD and the only one I never got to work was Braveheart, they sent a replacement that worked. I think the first disc was probably fine though after a clean, it was just this issue where the LG gets fixated on not playing a specific disc and I didn't know the fix, I do now.
If you power off your machine completely, as in switch it off at the power supply and hold the power button down for 10 seconds. Then power it back up it will read the disc just fine.
I just got Masters of the Universe. The disc looked absolutely pristine but the LG wouldn't recognise it. Cleaned the disc and a bunch of residue showed up, it took 3 goes to get a result without any residue on it. Put it back in the LG and it still refused to read it. After shutting down the PC fully and restarting, it recognised the disc immediately.
It doesn't always happen but it's happened enough for me to know if a disc won't read after it's been cleaned then the next step is powering down the machine and trying again.
I don't know what the distributors are doing lately but I'm noticing more new discs are needing to be cleaned. Project Hail Mary and Masters of the Universe I pretty much got on release and they both needed cleaning. Normally it only occurred on older titles that had been sitting on the shelf for a while, I just figured it was some off gassing of the case or something leaving a layer on the disc.
Unable to read a specific 4k UHD disc

Yes, the LG drives sometimes get themselves in a state and need to be powered off completely for a few minutes. This has been mentioned many times throughout the forum.Crappusername wrote: Fri Oct 23, 2026 12:12 am I'm just going to post this here as it seems relevant. Some discs are just bad. They are often good enough to play in a standalone player but not good enough to be read bit exact by a PC optical drive.
Cheers
