i believe you can upgrade it further to become a S11JX.

What’s the benefit of that? This firmware is proven and reads 4k UHD just fine.

I purchased a Pioneer BDR-S08XLT from kraath and would like to share my experience.

The drive arrived safely, including its original Pioneer retail box. It was in very good cosmetic condition, with the protective film still attached to the front panel.

As advertised, the drive is configured with Pioneer BDR-S11 firmware 1.53 and LibreDrive support. MakeMKV recognizes it correctly, and LibreDrive is fully enabled.

So far, I have successfully tested and ripped:

DVD: The Vision of Escaflowne

Blu-ray: The Universe

4K UHD Blu-ray: Longlegs

All three formats worked successfully. UHD reading speeds have reached up to 4x so far.

I have not yet tested a triple-layer BD-100 disc, so I cannot comment on that specifically.

The drive was certainly not inexpensive, but it works as advertised, and I am happy with my purchase.

Thank you, kraath!

Thanks for the reply. All drives are like this and bad ones get sorted out. The slim ones are in even better condition than the fullsize! Also recommended for USA/Canada shipments to avoid import taxes.

The drives here have been stored for several years in the original packaging. They may show minor cosmetic imperfections, such as small flaws or rust spots from storage, but each drive has been tested and is confirmed to be fully functional.
You’ll receive the drive with its original box. Pioneer retail for fullsize and OEM plain carton box for the slims.

Only buy if you are fine with this!
