Just trying my luck to ask if anyone has it.. Hehehehe!!
Your UD02 won't do UHD if that's what you're thinking :) also, not sure about your firmware, i thought i had most, but can't find this.

this is the readout from makemkv.. it cant read any discs at all. the laserhead is always positioned at the other extreme end, instead of being positioned next to the central spindle like all drives do...this happened right after i did the double flash to ud03 then to ud04..it did it great, but when i popped open the drive to check playability of discs, i saw the awkward placement of the laserhead..thats when the horror kicked in. Hahahaha!!!

Yes, you're drive is a { 0x8410, "PIONEER BDR-US02" }, I think you have managed to upgrade it to a drive that doesn't know what to do anymore, you're best bet is to downgrade it, I wish i had the firmware files for you, but I only have down to UD03, you could always try that of course? :)

Hey all, new account just made, but I've browsed the forum for a couple of years and used MakeMKV a nice amount in that time.

I have a portable Pioneer BD-RW BDR-XD08 that I picked up off Amazon in late 2024. At the time I updated it to the latest official firmware, not realizing that locked it out of UHD reading. Up until then, it was my first Blu-ray drive after only having DVD drives, and it handled standard discs great. When a certain 4K release was announced for May 2026, I caved and bought an ASUS BW-16D1X-U specifically to handle 4K ripping at home, relegating the Pioneer to travel duty for conventions just playing standard DVDs and Blu-rays.

Thanks to Heisenberg, the Pioneer has a whole new lease on life. He helped me get it cross-flashed to a BDR-XD08U (firmware 1.01). The Windows tool had a small hiccup with my drive, but Heisenberg quickly sent over the updated macOS build, which worked great. LibreDrive is fully enabled, and it just finished reading and ripping my first 4K disc without a hitch.

Huge thanks to Heisenberg for the time, the support, and for making this available freely to the community!
