Oh, as it was sold as LG, but contains a Pioneer, I hoped the pioneer firmware would solve.

Below is the drive within the bogus container

Sorry buddy! The label doesn't count. What counts is what Makemkv is reporting.
Hi again Coopervid,

Thanks for your patience. I think there's an unusual edge case here that may explain the discrepancy.

This thread from last week appears to document essentially the same situation:

viewtopic.php?t=42497

That drive also reported to MakeMKV as HL-DT-ST BP55EB40 revision 1.00, and SDFTool reported MT1959 Platform: NO. After opening it, the mechanism was identified as a Pioneer BDR-UD03TBD HW/FW 1.00, and MartyMcNuts identified it as Pioneer/RS8511 hardware.

Mine likewise reports BP55EB40 1.00 in MakeMKV, SDFTool says MT1959 Platform: NO, but the physical mechanism is labelled Pioneer BDR-UD03TBD HW/FW 1.00.

So I'm reluctant to try LG firmware on it. Could this be the same unusual configuration as that other drive?
Again the label doesn't count.
