I have another brand new and unused ASUS BW-16D1H-U Pro with Pioneer BDR-212 available, inluding all the original boxing. It has already been cross-flashed to support 4K UHD discs and has been tested. Works like a charm. Drop me an email if you're interested!

I have updated the initial post. I have a few Pioneer BDE-PR1EP2 drives (manufactured in early to mid-2022) available. :) This is an enterprise-grade variant of the BDR-212 family, featuring much stricter quality control and a longer expected lifespan than consumer-grade models.

Hello!

I have never purchased a drive for ripping before and am a little confused on what to get. I just want to buy one drive and have it work out of the box and not have to think about it again. Would those internal enterprise grade drives be what I would want to get? Would they "last me a lifetime"? I only have a laptop with no disc drive mounting abilities. What all would I need to get in order to use one of these drives? A power adapter? Some sort of casing?

Also bonus question: Does anyone know of any good ways to actually "play" a blu-ray disc on my computer? Like with the menus and everything? I have a 21:9 monitor and want to be able to have the movie fill up the screen without any sort of boxing. I know you can rip with makeMKV and use VLC to do this (I have been doing this with BDMVs I can find online), but I would also like to get the "authentic" live playback experience + the full screen real estate being used like makeMKV lets you do.

Thank you!!!

I'm sorry if this is not really a place to ask questions like this. Please let me know where they would be better asked. Again, I'm a noob :p

Yes, an internal 5.25″ enterprise drive can work with your laptop, but you’ll need a suitable external 5.25″ USB enclosure with its own power adapter - just a cable or small 2.5″ adapter won’t be sufficient. Enterprise drives are generally very durable, but no drive is guaranteed to last a lifetime. They’re a good choice if you value longevity and reliability. Feel free to reach out via email, so that we can discuss this in more detail!

VLC can play Blu-ray discs, including menus, when using an on-the-fly decrypter such as MakeMKV or Xreveal. However, ripping the disc with MakeMKV and playing the MKV file is generally recommended over playing the disc directly, as doing so avoids unnecessary wear on the drive.
