I see over on the Mac forum someone is saying that with version 2.0.0, they're getting lots of "A fatal error occured. MakeMKV will now exit." messages.
I can confirm it's happening with v 2.0.0 on Linux as well. Both with actual Blu-Ray discs and with (successful) MakeMKV backup images. Rolling back to 1.18.4 fixes it right up. I'm not seeing any other messages logged...after a bit of thinking, it just doesn't open the disc or image, and dies.

Re: Fatal error occurred: Linux edition
...And I can confirm that the same thing happened to me with the Windows 2.0.0 version as well, except this time MakeMKV at least tried to open a few titles before crashing almost immediately.

Plus
Windows 7
Windows 10

Re: Fatal error occurred: Linux edition
I tested it with an Ubuntu LTS Noble Numbat-based distro, and then with an Arch distrobox inside that same distro, and then also with Windows 11. I am still getting the crashes. I am now really curious as to what is going on.

Re: Fatal error occurred: Linux edition
UPDATE : Also tested with the newest Flatpak version on Linux Mint 22.3 "Zena" with XFCE rather than KDE this time. I did a basic test, I merely tried to open an ISO file with my drive unplugged. Instant crash.
These crashes on Ubuntu Noble and Linux Mint Zena seem to occur regardless of whether you open a UHD ISO or a regular Blu-ray ISO. DVD ISOs, on the other hand, seem to work fine for me.
EDIT : Here is the crash dump for Ubuntu Noble, the crash also happens when using version 1.18.4 of the GUI and makemkvcon 2.0.0, but not the other way around, suggesting that the problem indeed stems from makemkvcon.

Re: Fatal error occurred: Linux edition
I can confirm on ArchLinux (system fully up to date):
I'll be downgrading to 1.18.4 in the meantime. For those who have difficulty finding the old packages: https://makemkv.com/download/old/
PS: If you're like me, your Arch system is up-to-date and you have ffmpeg9.x. If that's the case, simply rebuilding the 1.18.4 version will not work. You need to get the ffmpeg9 patch from the latest version, copy the file to build directory next to the tarballs. Add it to the PKGBUILD in source and sha256sums, then add the prepare() step from the 2.0.0 PKGBUILD. Build and you're done.

Re: Fatal error occurred: Linux edition
For those who, like me, use the Flatpak version, simply pin it to prevent it from updating to 2.0.0:
Code: Select all
flatpak mask com.makemkv.MakeMKV
