This project is being done to combine the superior 4K video from the 2026 Shout Factory UHD with the corrected lossless audio from the 2018 Umbrella Australian Blu-ray.
The Shout release contains known audio problems, including altered/redubbed dialogue, a problematic Atmos mix and a 2.0 dual-mono track that is not the proper original mono presentation. The Umbrella release provides corrected DTS-HD MA 5.1 and 2.0 tracks with the original dialogue intact.
Because both releases run at 23.976 fps, the Umbrella audio can be synchronized to the Shout 4K video with a simple +1001 ms delay, without stretching, resampling or re-encoding. The goal is a movie-only remux that preserves Shout’s 4K picture while restoring the preferred audio presentations.
You will also need a standalone disc decrypter, not MakeMKV (although MakeMKV use "MAY" be possible to decrypt files to a folder then use tsMuxeR), and a UHD-friendly optical drive capable of reading the disc, such as a compatible modified OmniDrive, to extract the source files for this project.
Instructions:
Day of the Dead (1985) Custom 4K Remux
Shout Factory 2026 4K UHD Video + Umbrella 2018 Australian DTS-HD MA Audio
This procedure creates a movie-only custom remux using the video from the 2026 Shout Factory 4K UHD with the preferred DTS-HD Master Audio tracks from the Day of the Dead - Umbrella 2018 Australian Blu-Ray & DVD Release.
No video or audio re-encoding is required.
Important Frame Rate Information
Both releases use the same feature frame rate:
Shout Factory 2026 4K UHD: 23.976 fps
Umbrella 2018 Australian Blu-ray: 23.976 fps
They are NOT 24.000 fps.
Because both releases run at 23.976 fps, the Umbrella audio does NOT require stretching, resampling or frame-rate conversion to match the Shout 4K video.
Only the fixed +1001 ms timing offset is required.
You can confirm the frame rate of both sources with MediaInfo before beginning.

Shout 4K Source File
Use the largest feature .m2ts file on the Shout Factory 4K UHD as the video source.
Do NOT use the .mpls playlist for this procedure.
Verify that the large .m2ts file contains the complete movie before continuing.
This process does NOT reauthor the original Shout Factory UHD Disc structure.
You will NOT retain:
Original Shout menus
Original disc navigation
Extras not specifically included
Original commercial disc structure
The result will be a movie-only presentation containing only the video and audio streams you select.
Procedure
Open tsMuxeR.
Click Add and load the largest feature .m2ts file from the Shout Factory 2026 4K UHD.
Add the two extracted audio files from the Umbrella 2018 Australian Blu-ray:
DTS-HD MA 5.1, Stream 4352
DTS-HD MA 2.0, Stream 4353
Select the Umbrella DTS-HD MA 5.1 track and set:
Timeshift / Delay: +1001 ms
Select the Umbrella DTS-HD MA 2.0 track and set:
Timeshift / Delay: +1001 ms
Remove or uncheck the following Shout audio tracks:
Dolby Atmos / TrueHD
Shout DTS-HD MA 5.1
Shout 2.0 dual-mono track
Keep the Shout LaserDisc-derived DTS-HD MA 2.0 stereo track.
This should be the last main DTS-HD MA audio track in the Shout stream list.
Leave this track at:
0 ms
Keep any commentary tracks or subtitle tracks you want included.
Before muxing, your selected streams should be:
Shout Factory 4K HEVC video, 23.976 fps
Umbrella DTS-HD MA 5.1, +1001 ms
Umbrella DTS-HD MA 2.0, +1001 ms
Shout LaserDisc-derived DTS-HD MA 2.0, 0 ms
Any desired commentary tracks and subtitles
Output
Select the desired tsMuxeR output:
M2TS for a single movie-only transport-stream file
ISO for a movie-only disc image
Blu-ray folder for a movie-only Blu-ray structure suitable for compatible playback, burning or further authoring
None of these options will restore the original Shout menus, extras or commercial disc navigation.
The ISO and Blu-ray folder options are newly authored movie-only structures, not recreations of the original UHD.
Example filename:
Day of the Dead (Shout 4K, Umbrella DTS, No Atmos) [4K].m2ts
Verification
After muxing, verify both imported Umbrella tracks.
Because both the Shout 4K and Umbrella Blu-ray are 23.976 fps, synchronization should remain constant throughout the movie using the fixed +1001 ms offset.
Check synchronization:
Near the beginning
Around the middle
Near the end
You can also use the known dialogue differences below to confirm that the correct Umbrella audio is playing.
Est. UHD Time
Correct Umbrella / original audio
Incorrect Shout audio
9:16
Original "It's crazy" delivery
Redubbed voice
9:36
Flyboy says "s**t"
Says "right"
58:52
Complete Steel gunshot effect
Gunshot is truncated
61:38
Original Steel line reading
Alternate redubbed reading
71:25
Sarah says "Oh Jesus"
Says "I can't look"
80:36
Steel says "Jesus"
Says "stuck"
The quickest verification point is approximately 9:36.
With either Umbrella DTS-HD MA track selected, Flyboy should say:
"s**t"
If you hear:
"right"
you are listening to one of the altered Shout audio tracks rather than the corrected Umbrella track.
Once the beginning, middle and end remain synchronized and the dialogue checks match the Umbrella audio, the remux is complete.

Re: Day of the Dead Shout/Scream Factory 4K UHD Audio Removal, Replace and Remux
The +1001 ms timing approach is a useful detail, especially since both releases are 23.976 fps and can be checked for sync at multiple points throughout the film.
