Verbatim 43888 BU40N - 1.05 firmware

Hi

First time post so be gentle with me.

I`m new to UHD drives but recently bought (7/8/26) a Verbatim model 43888 (BU40N). I flashed the firmware to v1.03 (as per guides on this forum) and it was happily reading UHD`s.

However yesterday it started making strange clicking noises when burning and refused to burn Dual layer Blu rays (Single layer still burns and it reads Blu rays and UHD).

My guess is that the drive is gubbed (technical term) and I plan to contact the seller and see if they can either repair or replace the drive. I`m just outwith 30 days so they might just send me direct to Verbatim but I'll try.

However I thought i better flash it back to factory settings before it is returned as although the 3rd party may not check, if they do they are likely to tell me its me that has caused the problem and refuse to repair/replace.

However I cannot find the original firmware (i`m sure its 1.05) so hoping someone on the forum will be able to assist.

Hello !

You shouldn't use the official LG BU40N 1.05 flasher on a Verbatim 43888. Multiple people have reported serious issues (namely the flasher getting stuck halfway through the flashing process and the drive getting half-bricked).

If you don't mind doing something a little risky (I've never heard of anyone testing this before, aside from, possibly, RibShark), try flashing this with encryption instead : https://workupload.com/start/pvw2FG6GarF

And if that doesn't work, try flashing it without encryption.

This decrypted BU40N 1.05 firmware is a gift from RibShark to the community, so all thanks go to them.
