Want to Flash Drive

Post by drxenos »

Can someone help me?

I have two WH16NS40 drives. One I flashed years ago to make to make UHD friendly. I wanted to do the same to the other one. The firmware packs are not accessible with the website down, but I have the firmware pack (mk-firmware-pack-20200720.zip) and the tool (sdftool_flasher.zip) backed up.

Assuming those still work, I don't remember which firmware I need to use or the steps. I vaguely remember I had to flash twice, once encrypted, then not.

I want the new drive the same as the old (so I need to go from 1.05 to 1.02).

Here's the info from MakeMKV on the drives:

Hello,

A single flash with encryption with HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS60-1.02-NM00100-211810291936.bin (inside the \MK\old folder inside your firmware pack) should be enough. No bootloader, no RECOVER, just a WRITE with encryption. You can then do a second non-encrypted flash to DE_LG_WH16NS60_1.00.bin (inside MartyMcNuts' firmware pack from the SDFtool flasher thread) if you want DVDFab compatibility. Otherwise, you should probably leave it at WH16NS60-1.02-MK.

Thank you!!

Does it matter than the firmware is WH16NS60, and my drives are both WH16NS40?

It does matter that it's the WH16NS60 firmware, but in a good way ! It's the UHD-compatible firmware you are supposed to use for the WH16NS40 drive. :)

Thanks. Should I flash both of them with this firmware, then? The older one is working fine, but if this firmware is somehow better...

No. :)

Never flash a drive that already does what you want it to do.

Thank you. That worked perfectly. I was able to rip and verify a 4K disc.
