Hey, so i bought a BD Drive on ebay. The title was saying: External 4K Drive LG-BP55EB40 with LG-BP60NB10 FW 1.02mk "UHD friendly" USB 2.0.
I got it now and makemkv shows me for the drive following:

So it says libredrive is not enabled. I assume this means, the 1.02mk is not installed ? did i got scammed ? can i install it my self ?
I know about the link here: viewtopic.php?t=19634
But i dont know at which part to start. My english isnt perfect.
Ps. If i try to copy a 32GB m2ts File to my hard drive, the max speed i get is around 12mb. Also when opening the folders from the disc, the drive starts making sounds and i dont know if its normal because the package of the drive clearly says silent and also up to 6x speed for bd. So i dont know if i have a faulty drive and may got scammed
Just got my first USB BD drive, where do i start ?
Re: Just got my first USB BD drive, where do i start ?
In this thread (https://forum.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=41671) where someone else has a BP55EB40, MartyMcNuts points to the procedure as shown via the gif in the SDFtool Flasher thread. It is multi-step flashing process which often confuses people.
Re: Just got my first USB BD drive, where do i start ?
Also, according to asmcom :
So I wouldn't bother flashing BP60NB10 1.02MK on this drive model, personally. For my BP55EB40s, I prefer using the BP60NB10 1.00MK or BU40N 1.00 firmwares (I've tested both, and they work great with a BP55EB40).asmcom wrote:We have extensively tested the BP55EB40 with both [BP60NB10] 1.02MK and [BP60NB10] 1.00MK firmware versions.
Firmware 1.00MK is clearly the best option if you are using the drive solely with MakeMKV. If you require broader compatibility (e.g. DVDFab support), then the BU40N with 1.00DE firmware is the better choice.
In our testing, 1.02MK frequently failed on discs where 1.00MK succeeded first time.
We would agree with martymcnuts, newer is not always better.

We have carried out extensive independent testing of both 1.02MK and 1.00MK firmware on the BP55EB40, and based on our results we would definitely recommend 1.00MK for use with MakeMKV.Sayaka wrote: Mon Aug 24, 2026 3:38 pm Also, according to asmcom :

This was not based on testing just a handful of discs. We tested over 60 different UHD titles over approximately three months, using both firmware versions under the same conditions.
It did not take long for a very clear pattern to emerge. We repeatedly encountered discs that would fail or give problems with 1.02MK, but would read successfully first time after switching to 1.00MK.
Of course, this is only our own independent testing and other users may have different experiences, but across more than 60 different titles our results were consistent enough for us to conclude that 1.00MK is the better and more reliable firmware for the BP55EB40 when used with MakeMKV.
Kind Regards
