SDFtool Flasher
Re: SDFtool Flasher
Hi! thanks for your quick answer! can you send me a link to the documentation of the commands i need to use? thank you.
Re: SDFtool Flasher
See Billycar11's guide : viewtopic.php?t=19634
Please read *everything* in the first post carefully before attempting anything.
Or, if you post your full drive info and LibreDrive info, I should be able to make a small, custom guide specifically tailored to your needs.

Re: SDFtool Flasher
Hello and again - thanks for your fast reply.
I read it -twice - and there is written hat 1.17.7 is the last version that is supportet for flashing:
Mac/linux commands to flash. the latest working version is 1.17.7 of makemkv for flashing do not use an newer version for flashing until further notice on linux.
I installed ARM and makemkv is installed with it.
Should i set up another VM/LXC/Docker with an older Makekmv version or is there another way?
Or did I just misunderstand that warning and can proceed with the guide and get the sdf.bin and follow the instructions? The download: https://makemkv.com/sdf.bin fails. I already got the HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS60-1.02-NM00100-211810291936.bin from the "all you need firmware collection".
The Windows tool does not work when i just hand over the drive in proxmox since it does not register the "real" drive.

Re: SDFtool Flasher
As the instructions imply, this download seems to be mandatory for Mac, not Linux. You can just ignore the whole sdf.bin thing on Linux (I know I did, anyway). The download: https://makemkv.com/sdf.bin fails.
makemkv-bin 1.18.4 can be replaced with makemkv-bin 1.17.6 safely : viewtopic.php?t=42158Should i set up another VM/LXC/Docker with an older Makekmv version or is there another way?
See the installation instructions : viewtopic.php?t=2047
No need to replace makemkv-oss, that's just the graphical interface. Once the flashing is done you can just switch back to makemkv-bin 1.18.4
It's best to just use the CLI on Linux. The Windows tool does not work when i just hand over the drive in proxmox since it does not register the "real" drive.
Again, if you post your full drive information and LibreDrive information (without the drive serial number if you want extra privacy), I can double-check everything and guide you through the exact steps.
EDIT : To clarify, I would recommend forgetting about ARM for the flashing process and just using the regular MakeMKV. You can safely install MakeMKV natively, rather than with Docker.
Re: SDFtool Flasher
Here's the info i got from executing the info order:
Drive Information:
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BD-RE BH16NS55
Revision: 1.02
Bus encryption flags: 1B
LibreDrive status from MakeMKV log:
Using LibreDrive mode (v06.3 id=067EFCA8EA7E)
OS device name: /dev/sr0
Is that all you need? i am installing it directly on the pve host now.

Re: SDFtool Flasher
Thank you for the /dev/sr0 part, I will need that. Could you please start the full MakeMKV Graphical User Interface once it's installed, and see if there is something like this ?
The above is purely an example but the full information should hopefully look like this. More specifically, I would like to check the firmware date just in case. Just to 100% confirm whether flashing with encryption should be needed or not.Drive Information

Hi!
Thank you again for your support.
Unfortunately i cannot build it since the server seems to have trouble.
www.makemkv.com/download/old is unreachable.
I'll try again later this evening or tomorrow and report back.

Also a lot of times it just "works" by refreshing and falling back to way back machineionas wrote: Tue Aug 04, 2026 2:14 pm Hi!

Re: SDFtool Flasher
Hello, thank you. Sorry i missed that. i was able to build both packages and after entering my license i was able to launch it.
makemkvcon f -d /dev/sr0 -f /root/.MakeMKV/sdf.bin rawflash main -i /tmp/firmware.bin
is what i would try if i had a sdf.bin
How did you do it without?

Re: SDFtool Flasher
If the firmware date for your current firmware says 2120 or later :
If the firmware date for your current firmware is *below* 2120 :
If it fails with rawflash enc, try rawflash main. If it fails with rawflash main, try rawflash enc.
Simple enough, yes ?
Also :
Code: Select all
makemkvcon f -d /dev/sr0 rawflash enc -i /tmp/firmware.binCode: Select all
makemkvcon f -d /dev/sr0 rawflash main -i /tmp/firmware.binSimple enough, yes ?
Also :
Normally your .MakeMKV folder is supposed to be inside your /home/username folder, not inside the root user folder.../root/.MakeMKV/sdf.bin
Re: SDFtool Flasher
Hello dears,
having an external LG BE16NU50 drive, unfortunately running on FW 1.02, I would appreciate to get help to make it run to rip UHD BDs.
I read all the topics carefully but still don't understand how to get the correct firmware on this drive?
What firmware do I need for this drive to flash with the SDFtool exactly?
And where can I get the proper.bin file?
Or could someone offer me a service?
Also I am wondering if a new WH16NS60 would work "out of the box" for UHD ripping or if I also would need to flash the "correct" FW first?
I thank you very much for any help.
Best regards
Fabi

Re: SDFtool Flasher
Hello,
You should flash DE_LG_WH16NS60_1.00.bin (which is not a MK firmware and therefore less troublesome for DVDFab and possibly Linux compatibility) or DE_LG_WH16NS60_1.02_MK.bin (which seems to be the "gold standard" when you don't care about DVDFab), both are from MartyMcNuts' all you need firmware pack from the SDFtool Flasher thread.
BE16NU50 1.02 is a 2018 or 2017 firmware I believe, you can easily check this yourself if you open MakeMKV and the firmware date says 2118 or 2117 (no, this is not a typo, LG drives really pretend to have a firmware that's 100 years ahead of the actual date
). In that case, the firmware date would be below 2020 so no encryption needed.
SDFtool Flasher should auto-detect the need for encryption anyway.
No bootloader, no RECOVER, just a regular WRITE.

If you can somehow get your hands on an old, but still technically "new and unused" (if new is what you want) drive like this from ebay or something and you're lucky enough to have the 1.00 firmware, yes, it will work "out of the box". Otherwise, flashing will be required. Also I am wondering if a new WH16NS60 would work "out of the box" for UHD ripping or if I also would need to flash the "correct" FW first?
