LG BU40N Not Platform MT1959?

Post by alanrab »

I just plugged in a new LG BU40N (Mfg Date: November 2019). My Windows 11 PC recognizes the new drive which is connected via USB adapter cable. I can insert a Blu-ray disc in it and it reads the info on the disc and is ready to rip. Drive information under the Info section of MakeMKV shows:

OS device name: \Device\DdRom1
Current Profile: BD-ROM
Product: 99999999999999
Revision: FR07
Serial Number: 911HS009563
Firmware date: 2119-05-10 13:48
Bus encryption flags: 1F
Highest AACS version:82

SDFtool Flasher (v.1.3.6) shows a red X next to MT 1959 Platform. Flasher identifies the drive as: F: 000000_FR07_211905101348_911HS009563. MakeMKV shows the same Source identification.

Is this drive un-flashable in this or any state? Could it be an issue with the USB 3.0 to 7+6 13-pin slimline adapter cable I'm using to connect the drive to my PC?

USB 3.0 to 7+6 13-pin slimline adapter cable
Better get a slimline to regular SATA adapter, which would then allow you to choose / use a regular SATA to USB adapter. Because "direct to slimline" is considered more niche, choices you have tend to be "cheap" (in quality).

Hello! I thought I'd comment since I just ran into the same problem after buying 2 BU40N drives from someone. I purchased one of the slim SATA to SATA adapters recommended in the guide and all is working now.
