Latest firmware version

Post by Yk1991 »

Good morning,

I would like to buy a used Pioneer BDR-XS07B-UHD drive.
But I would like to know before I buy it, what is the latest firmware version that supports flashing so that I could rip DVD, normal bluray and UHD bluray?

Thank you very much

The model (as in, "XS07UHD") doesn't really require flashing for UHD support AFAICT. However it does depend on the exact "minor variant" (IF there are really multiple) of firmware the drive has, in the sense that it might not be "recognized" by MakeMKV as a LibreDrive YET. I don't know for sure if mike still takes in firmware dump (or what kind of dump he needs / how hard it is to get it created), but technically it does NOT mean you "need to" flash your drive in that case. (Instead you can just send the dump and wait and see.)

With that said if you happen to bump into such variant, you COULD flash the drive with another variant. The version probably doesn't matter if you don't mind pay Billy (not sure how much). But if you do, 1.02 is probably the "last safe version" for this "line".

In terms of "current support", 1.01, 1.02 and 1.03 seem to be safer bet than 1.00 and 1.04: viewtopic.php?p=79712#p79712

The XS07B is not a UHD drive. If it has previously been flashed to allow UHD ripping, once you get it, leave it alone. Do not change the firmware on it. Changing to a newer firmware does not gain you anything but you may lose UHD readability.
Cheers :D

It seems to me that the question is really what exactly the model it is being advertised by the seller and what he would really get.

Pretty sure "XS07UHD" is a legit UHD supporting model (https://usa.pioneer/products/bdr-xs07uhd), while "XS07B-UHD" could be just a XS07B, or even a complete scam (i.e. non-Pionner drive).

EDIT: Wait. It seems that XS07B-UHD is also a legit (UHD) model...Looks like the Japan "version" of XS07UHD? https://jpn.pioneer/ja/pcperipherals/bd ... xs07b_uhd/

---

I feel like the model that is really not UHD supporting is "XD07B" (which is not slot in but "covered"), and there's no "XD07B-UHD" or "XS07B"...

---

Btw you can really download the firmware updater(s) of the model that you are expected to get and extract the firmware (with e.g. 7-zip) inside. (Keeping on diving/extracting until you see a folder containing one or two files named with three digit number, probably 1xx.) By opening it (the one with larger number) with a hex editor or so you should be able to more or less confirm which variant (e.g. ID05 or ID69 of the XS07U) it would have. Then by checking with the post/list given above you can tell which versions of the variant are currently supported as LibreDrive.

Japan models: https://jpn.pioneer/ja/support/pcperiph ... re/bdr-xs/
Others: https://pioneer.jp/device_e/product-e/i ... 01r_e.html

(You can download the one for "XS07UHD" and do the same thing to cross check / double confirm that two versions/models have the two variants respectively.)

---

Also, say you got a drive with ID69 of 1.00 (and find out that it is indeed not currently supported), you can download the official updater of 1.01/1.02/1.03 (but just not 1.04 that is also not supported) and update the drive to make it Libre.

For example:
https://pioneer.jp/cgi-bin/device/downl ... W101EU.exe
https://jpn.pioneer/ja/support/pcperiph ... HD_FW101EU

(Better start from the older ones just in case.)

Downgrade is on the other hand not possible, at least not without e.g. Billy's service.
