Greetings! I recently purchased a Pioneer BDR-212BK. In reading through forum posts, it appears that there is no need to flash a LibreDrive firmware to this drive, as it should be fully compatible with MakeMKV right out of the box - is that correct? Even if that is correct though, is there still a reason to consider flashing a firmware to this drive?
Thank you very much for the assistance!

Re: Question re Pioneer BDR-212BK
Yes. If you want to make it UHD compatible post your Makemkv info and I will send you the flasher to upgrade it.allomere wrote: ↑Sun Apr 19, 2026 5:06 pmGreetings! Re: Question re Pioneer BDR-212BK
Thank you for the reply. I will post the info when the drive is received! Out of curiosity, what is the benefit of flashing a different firmware if the drive is compatible with MakeMKV out of the box?
Re: Question re Pioneer BDR-212BK
This drive can only read BDs out of the box. You don't seem to know what UHDs are. Google.
Re: Question re Pioneer BDR-212BK
Yes, I am familiar with UHD (I have a WH16NS60 that I have previously flashed to read UHDs). I think I misunderstood some posts I had read and thought that Pioneer drives did not need to be flashed to a LibreDrive firmware. Clearly I was wrong and stupid.
Thanks again for answering my dumb question.

You are getting yourself confused. Libredrive does not equal UHD compatibility.allomere wrote: ↑Sun Apr 19, 2026 8:35 pmYes, I am familiar with UHD (I have a WH16NS60 that I have previously flashed to read UHDs). Yes, essentially all Pioneer drives are libredrive enabled as is but only UHD models can read UHD discs.
Your drive is not a UHD model so if you want to use it for UHD discs then it must be cross-flashed to the firmware of a UHD model.
Cheers
