LG HL-DT-ST BD-RE BH12LS38 suddenly not working with MakeMKV

Post by dooleyjlt »

I have an LG rom model HL-DT-ST BD-RE BH12LS38 that I had used for quite a while to rip my dvds and BRs. It suddenly would not work with MakeMKV and so I got an external that does. Today I was loading a BR into the external and while it was doing its thing I loaded a BR into the LG drive and it loaded up in another instance of MakeMKV. I have messed around with loading a BR into the external then one into the LG drive and gotten it to function several times. What would be the issue with the LG drive and would some kind of flashing possibly solve it? And if so what would I need to do to fix the issue? The external works but is not as fast as the LG. Thanks in advance.

No, flashing won't help it and there's no flashing available for it anyway.

It would help if you could elaborate on "would not work". That doesn't really tell us anything.

If you have had success with the drive since, it may have just been a particular disc the drive did't like/couldn't read. The disc could have been dirty, scratched etc causing read issues. The drive also may have just needed a reboot. This is all just guesswork as you didn't specify what error you got or what didn't work.
Cheers :D

It went from normal operation to when if I have MakeMKV already open it starts spinning the disc and never stops. And as far as functioning now only if I put a Blu-Ray in an external and have it going will the LG Drive at times fire up normally and read a Blu-Ray. But if I start MakeMKV first then insert a BR or have a BR inserted and start up MakeMKV either way it just spins the drive endlessly. I am not sure of what having an external drive going with MakeMKV could have to do with a different BR Rom working here or there.

Yeah, no, you should always let the OS initialise the disc before you open up MakeMKV, at least for the first time of a ripping session.

Personally, I always let the OS initialise the disc prior to opening MakeMKV then I close MakeMKV when the rip has completed and repeat the process for each disc I want to rip.
