Re: ASUS BW-16D1X-U
May I ask the build date on the bottom of the case? looking for a Pioneer drive.
Thank You.
Thank You.
Re: ASUS BW-16D1X-U
I have two BW-16D1X-U with manufacturing date in november 2024 with a Pioneer BDR-212T in it, can be flashed to read 4K. Bought two months ago.
Just bought two more of them with manufacturing date in november 2025 and the following drive is in it:
Laufwerksinformation
OS-Gerätename: G:
Produzent: ASUS
Produkt: BW-16D1X-U
Revision: A105
Serienummer:
Firmware-Datum: 2120-12-02 11:14
Markierungen der Bus-Verschlüsselung: 1F
Highest AACS version: 82
LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible, not yet enabled
Drive platform: MT1959
According to other posts in this forum it seems to be a LG WH16NS60, capable of reading 4k after flash. Could be worse, but I hoped for two more Pioneers. Two more BW-16D1X-u arrive tomorrow, hopefully they will have Pioneers in it. If not I will decide if I flash or RMA them
Re: ASUS BW-16D1X-U
Thank you. Are you in the US? Hope you get 2 more Pioneer drives. Heard they are a much better?

Re: ASUS BW-16D1X-U
These are LG WH16NS40 drives and yes, can be made UHD compatible by flashing. The recommended firmware is WH16NS60 1.02-MK.D3619 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 05, 2026 4:23 pmI have two BW-16D1X-U with manufacturing date in november 2024 with a Pioneer BDR-212T in it, can be flashed to read 4K. Re: ASUS BW-16D1X-U
I‘m in Europe.
The two other drives just arrived, both are from November 2025 too and have the same ASUS/LG drive in them.
Looks like the BW-16D1X-U with a Pioneer BDR-212T in it have a serialnumber beginning with SBD0A printed on the box while the newer ones have a serialnumber beginning with TBD0A.
Re: ASUS BW-16D1X-U
Thank you for the information. Sorry you ended up with two more LG's. I'll keep my eye out on the serial number.D3619 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 06, 2026 11:44 amI‘m in Europe.

Re: ASUS BW-16D1X-U
There are external Verbatim / Pioneer drives on sale in the UHD drives forum if you are interested.D3619 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 06, 2026 11:44 amI‘m in Europe.

I recently bought an ASUS BW‑16D1X‑U with a manufacturing date of January 2025, and the serial number started with T1D0A...D3619 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 06, 2026 11:44 amI‘m in Europe.

Inside it was a Pioneer drive, so searching by serial number didn't work.
Unless we assume that serial numbers starting with "S" correspond to late 2024 units, which would likely mean Pioneer. Meanwhile, serial numbers starting with "T1" (January 2025) also seem to be Pioneer, while those starting with "TB" (November 2025) appear to be LG. We don't know what's inside units with numbers from "T2" up to "TB", nor what time period those ranges cover. Unfortunately, the manufacturing date isn't printed on the box - it's only on the underside of the drive enclosure.
We need more samples to identify any reliable pattern in the serial numbers.
Re: ASUS BW-16D1X-U
SN's T#, # = month of Mfg in 2025. T1-T4 (Jan-Apr) are Pioneer, for all I purchased & sold. T5-TB (May-Nov) are LG. I have not found/seen any mfg since Nov, 2025.skyrider wrote: ↑Mon Mar 23, 2026 10:15 pmI recently bought an ASUS BW‑16D1X‑U with a manufacturing date of January 2025, and the serial number started with T1D0A...D3619 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 06, 2026 11:44 amI‘m in Europe.

I've seen 200+ with T# SNs. This is the pattern based on the SN & Mfg date on the chassis.
I suspect SNs starting with "S" were all Mfg in 2024.

Frank

Re: ASUS BW-16D1X-U
Thank you, now it makes sense.
Re: ASUS BW-16D1X-U
I just compared the serial number on my box with the build date and they do match up.
On the box T9 and build date 2025-09 with a Asus BW-16D1HT drive.
I just bought one on ebay with the serial S3 and build date of 2024-03. When it gets here I'll update the post with the drive type.
Thank you
