BU40N issues
BU40N issues
Hi all, I recently installed libredrive on my BU40N. I am running a dual boot machine with WIN10 and Ubuntu 25.10. Out of the box the drive operated as expected, after the firmware update it will only read UHD at 2x on Ubuntu, WIN10 at 6x. The eject button on the GUI will only unmount and then re-mount the disk and now the physical button does nothing. I have to insert a pin into the draw to eject the disk. File transfers to my Truenas server are also slower with Ubuntu, 65MB/s v 110MB/s, not related to Make MKV i know but interesting/annoying. I should note, I installed Make MKV via the snap store rather than CLI as I am relatively new to Linux if that makes any difference.

Re: BU40N issues
Are the MakeMKV versions different perchance?
If they differ, maybe try to manually get MakeMKV installed (the GUI resides in the OSS Version of the files you can manually download from the main MakeMKV webpage. The other one is just the commandline version)
I did also notice that the physical button becomes unresponsive once MakeMKV started a ripping process, although the GUI eject button works just fine (using a BU40N within a Verbatim 43888 enclosure).

Re: BU40N issues
On Linux, BU40N drives work better on the 1.00 firmware.

I'm pretty sure it is in MartyMcNut's All You Need Firmware Pack on the SDFtool Flasher page.

Re: BU40N issues
Hello,
I flashed the BU40N. To the A100 firmware. As it is a laptop internal drive, I shut down the computer and removed the batterie.
Alas, upon reboot, the BU40N still misbehave :
When you put a DVD in (I could not test with a BD yet), it spins and Ubuntu tries to get the DVD keys. Follows a infinite sequence of spins and search on the disc.
If, then, you launch say, VLC, the spinning stops and the disc opens properly.
As I had kept the original firmware which came into the drive, I tried to flash it back to the drive, only to find the same behavior.
Now, having tried 3 different firmware (1.03MK, 1.00 stamped as A100 in the drive and the original one), I wonder where I am ???
Would be very glad to get help on this issue !
TIA.
