Small Soldiers 4K

#1 Post by apoph1s » Mon Feb 23, 2026 11:49 pm

I am getting this error when trying to open Small Soliders 4K. I also got the same error with Now You See Me, Now You Don't 4K. I've attached the dump files for both below. Has anyone else received these errors?

I am using a Pioneer BDR-S12U drive.

The volume key is unknown for this disc - video can't be decrypted

You need to email those dump files to svq@makemkv.com. Eventually hashed keys will be produced so MakeMKV can decrypt them. See the UHD FAQ.

Additionally, the second key mechanism MakeMKV supports, the public keyDB, might already have the necessary keys. If not, the dumps can be submitted there as well. The first post in that thread explains all about it.

Generally speaking, don't attach dumps to posts here on the forum.

Have you tried downloading the latest KEYDB.cfg file, copying it into MakeMKV's data directory (i.e. where MakeMKV also writes its TGZ dump files) and restarting MakeMKV?

Presumably your MakeMKV produced a dump file. If it is named differently than the name posted by the OP then you also need to submit your dump as described since your copy of the disc requires a different key.

I am confident that the latest KEYDB.cfg file does contain a valid entry for MKB20_v71_Small_Soldiers_49DB.tgz. So unless your TGZ dump file is for a variant other than "49DB", then you must either have installed the KEYDB.cfg file incorrectly, failed to enable LibreDrive for your UHD drive, or perhaps both?

I deleted everything out of the folder and redownloaded the file, extracted it and replaced the keydb.cfg and it is working now ... thanks!

Still not working. I put the updated .cfg file in the folder. I'm on a Mac, is it different?

The keyDB file needs to go in the folder that's configured as the 'MakeMKV data directory'. You can find what it is set to by looking on the General tab of MakeMKV's preferences.
