Is it even possible to buy a permanent key?

Post by Framwinkle »

A while ago I got tired of the free key expiring, so I decided to pay the $60 and get a permanent key. I went to the page where you buy it, filled everything out, and got a confirmation from the payment processor. That same confirmation told me I needed to send an e-mail to the developer to get the key, since I guess it's not automatic, and they have nothing to do with that. So I sent an e-mail to the place they told me, politely asking for a key, including my confirmation number in the e-mail as proof that I'd paid.

But instead of getting a key back, they refunded my money. So is it even possible to buy this program? I wouldn't mind supporting the developer, because I think it's a good program, and I find it useful, but I'm a little frustrated now. I don't know why they keep using this key system in the first place. For the paid version, sure it makes sense. But for free it should just be checking for updates when you start the program, and then prompting you to download the update if there is one. But if there's no update, it should just run. These keys are so annoying.

Yes. https://www.makemkv.com/buy/

You must've been caught up in the unfortunate mess in August 2025. That situation has been fixed. If you buy a key now you should get it via email from the payment processor within minutes.

August sounds about right. I'll try it again.

Huzzah! It worked, and the program is working again, too. Thank you!

A few days ago, I started receiving the following error whenever I tried to rip a BluRay disc:

Error 'Scsi error - BLANK CHECK:NO ADDITIONAL SENSE INFORMATION' occurred while issuing SCSI command A30..00200740100720..0ADFBC5872F291DA3B602FA9CFCCA3D093C to device 'IoKit:/IOBDServices/AB4D5152'

I went ahead and bought an activation key/license for USD 60, and registered my copy of MakeMKV. Despite doing that, I continue to get the same error message. I'm not sure what is going on. Anyone else out there experiencing this same problem?

The key doesn't change how the disk is read; the error described is hardware-related.

Is it happening on ALL BDs, or just some of them? For example, if you insert a disk you previously read, do you get the same error?

After a really bad experience with PayPro Global (where they demanded I send a copy of my passport to a GMail account to prove I wasn't committing fraud with my credit card - I declined given the risk of identity theft) I really want to avoid them in future. Is there any possibility of paying via other means?

In the past I've found BMTMicro to be great to deal with from a customer perspective.
