Thanks, I'm going to place an order for the AMB6+.

When is the encoding date? I believe Framestor used an older version of MakeMKV and/or MediaInfo for a while, which didn't inclue the DV flag, or something along those lines. What does a modern version of MediaInfo say?safariff wrote: Fri Jan 16, 2026 2:38 pmAnyone know why the DV profile I typically see is not shown in the "HDR format" line? Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
So us AM6b+ owners are now in a situation where we are blessed with 3 different current builds/paths:
"OG" cpm on A15-HEVC, seemingly focusing on only full bitrate remux/lossless audio. https://github.com/cpm-code/xbmc/releases
avdvplus, currently on release 5 (which is what I am running right now), focusing on everything within reason and DV improvements in general. https://github.com/avdvplus/Builds/releases
U3k on B11, similar to avdvplus, but also backporting stuff from Kodi 22 (mostly GUI rendering stuff if i read it correctly?), maybe halted/discontinued as the repo is archived. https://github.com/CE-Repo/xbmc/releases/tag/B11
My only issues, which persist across all 3 versions are random crashes, completely taking down the AM6b+ , and some DV content completely blanking the screen (on a scene by scene basis) on my LG E6. (Latest content is Slow Horses S05 and Fallout S02 P5 versions, in which every episode has issues sooner or later), which can be fixed by removing CM4.0 using dovi_scripts, which are fine, but not super nice, as this can happen at any point in a movie/show, such as 30 minutes into a movie, which is not really when one would want to start running scripts on a file.
Just wondering if there is a preference / comparison, as i have lost the thread by now

CPM and Jamal (u3k) have both retired and are no longer working on this project. At this point, avdvplus is the only build that should be used.Epedemic wrote: Fri Jan 16, 2026 11:42 pm So us AM6b+ owners are now in a situation where we are blessed with 3 different current builds/paths:

If you haven't already, you should open a ticket regarding these crashes. The issue is likely easy to fix, it's probably related to the fact that you have a first gen oled tv.

Regardless, the P5 versions are always better than the P8 versions, HDR-wise.
At least according to this.

Looking at that link, I feel like a P8 UHD Remux would still be slightly better than a p5 (unless Movies Anywhere or BCORE) due to higher bitrate. I think a P8 Movies Anywhere is somewhere between a P8 UHD Remux and a P8 UHD Encode/Hybrid Encode. (Haven't seen a lot of p5 MA releases so haven't given them much thought)

Purely in terms of HDR, I believe a P5 will always be better than any P8, BD remux or VoD WEB-DL. Purely because they (P5) retain more dynamic range than P8 due to their more efficient colour space.safariff wrote: Sat Jan 24, 2026 7:23 amYes still in the format line besides that little bit missingTrees wrote: Thu Jan 22, 2026 12:33 amBut it does show DV in the HDR format line, right?safariff wrote: Sat Jan 17, 2026 11:02 pm

Except when it comes to ATVP/iT content, apparently the colours in Apple-sourced content looks distorted, something to do with the static colour reshaping metadata.
See here:
I'm not quite sure what exactly causes this or what the difference looks like as I haven't really looked into it as I try to avoid Apple-sources content for said reason.RESET_9999 wrote: Sun Oct 13, 2024 12:54 pm thats apple stupid static color reshaping. All their DV contents have this difference: red always looks brighter/orangish. sometimes it's less apparent.
this static metadata is removed when you convert the rpu to P8. Apple has no respect to the creator's intent, I did a video about it on my youtube channel.
Never watch iTunes P5 web-dl if you care about accuracy, always convert it to P8.
Perhaps reset could can comment in little more detail on this?

@RESET_9999 given this:
UHD Blu-ray Dolby Vision MEL

Since L2 trims are not static, what is the best practice here: generating new metadata or keeping retail RPU?

I dont know, but you can always test the original and generated tone mapping with workflow 7-4 and decide which one you prefer.

The movie was mastered at 4000 nits; proven by a HDR analysis, MaxCLL: 4427 nits, MaxFALL: 2325 nits.
On the other hand, Dolby Vision L1 is statically capped at 650 nits. Doesn't this mean that even if a TV hypothetically supported up to 4427 nits, using Dolby Vision would cap all content at 650 nits? Possibly wrongly tonemapped as well.
Generating a new RPU and transferring retail L2 metadata to it can be a solution?

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
Simple question but probably not a simple answer. I want to rip DV FEL files and keep FEL. Staxrip converts to 8.1 but doesn't keep FEL. I understand with Dovibaker it is possible? But although I've used Avi/Vapoursynth a lot, I'm still not really an expert at working out how to import files to the script. What is the simplest way rip DV FEL and keep FEL?
