Flashing seems to work, it does take quite a while for my PC to recognize a 4K disc (the 2nd time it sounded like an engine reving up high) and MPC-HC gave me an error about MakeMKV

I just got a WP50NB40 ( only drive I could find at my local microcenter )
and after running makeMKV I got the following

My understanding is that I need to go to

and then to
DE_LG_BP60NB10_1.02-MK.bin

is that the correct assumption ? I did not fully grasp the concept of SVC ( and if it's relevant here )

Any guidance would be much appreciated

Yes, the SVC code is relevant. If SVC NB52 (look at the sticker underneath the drive), follow the steps in the first post (or the gif), substituting BP50NB40 for WP50NB40. I have pasted them below for you.

1. Flash the drive to BP50NB40 (NB50) 1.03-MK.

After a successful flash to the MK firmware of the drive do the crossflash:

2. Select the RECOVERY option and in the pop up window (as per the window title text), select the BP50NB40 (NB50) 1.03-MK firmware that you just flashed and click OPEN.
3. Select the BP60NB10 1.00-MK or BU40N 1.00 (this is what I recommend) firmware in the normal firmware selection drop box (as per the window title text) then click OPEN.
4. Click START

Just want to confirm -- is flashing of drives on Linux still not working with the latest version(s) of MakeMKV?

I've flashed both ASUS and LG drives on my Linux machine before (June 2024) without issue but was unable to flash a couple Verbatim 43888 drives this weekend. The drive was seen, but any attempt to flash wouldn't produce any output (even with verbose mode) other than saying it was loading the file and then would just stall.

Eventually I just went to my Mac and was able to flash without issue on my MacBook Pro.

You didn't flash it right it's not on bu40n fw you likely need to follow nb52 steps

Yep use older versions. Most go for v1.17.7.

ok I got what I did wrong
The recover action is actually two steps in the SDFtool which I did not see

I recoved to LG BU40N 1.00 and now this drive is showing as such in makemkv

Hi all - I've been a lurker on and off for a few years but I'm finally getting around to acquiring drives so I can watch content via a NAS/Plex. Sucks to hear that drives are becoming scarce. I was lucky enough to get my hands on two Pioneer drives that I am looking to flash.

Before I paste the info for both drives, is it fine to run the flash on an Intel Mac that I've installed Windows on via Boot Camp Assist? Thanks!

Absolutely. You don't even have to use Boot Camp. You can freely virtualize Windows on macOS.

Either way - you're good to go for managing the flashing on a Mac.

I got ya, I just saw one on eBay was going to buy, but didn't want to jump until I knew. I did pass on it because its location was China, and I don't know what Tarrifs etc would look like LOL!!
