LG WH16NS60 SVC CODE: NS40

Post by rsaotome »

NOTE: I moved this from LibreDrive drives, don't think that was the right area.

Like the title says, I just received 2x LG WH16NS60 with SVC CODE: NS40, each has a new sticker on it from 2024-04-26, Manufactured: February 2024. I bought them on eBay from a seller in China, did I just get bamboozled?

I flashed both with "DE_LG_WH16NS60_1.02_MK.bin" found in the All You Need Firmware Pack (MartyMcNuts) pack. Used SDFtool Flasher 1.3.6 to flash both drives. Should I have used SDFtool Flasher 1.3.5? Did I use the wrong firmware? Is this possibly a crossflashed WH14NS40 with a new sticker? Would that matter? Are they just defective drives?

- 1 drive will read UHD discs (sometimes), but every 4K disc I rip, ends with a "failed hash check".
- The other drive won't read UHD discs at all, just crunches away from a couple of minutes, then, nothing.

Please help, I've already told them about the drive that won't read anything, but I need to know if it's worth it for them to send me another drive, or ask to send them back & get my money back. (Which is a gamble, since they said they don't accept returns)

They are fake. There is no such thing as a WH16NS60 SVC NS40. They will show as MT1939 and are from 2014.

The real WH16NS60 are all SVC NS60 but LG ceased manufacturing these back in 2021 I believe.
Cheers :D

Probably, but if you look in the MakeMKV pic, it's listed with "MT1959".

Which is how I was able to flash it, did they somehow fake an MT1959 chip, when it's really an MT1939 chip?

No they didn’t fake the MT1959 chip. They would have taken the guts from a cheap drive such as the WH14NS40 and put them in an older MT1939 case, added a new sticker to pass it off as a WH16NS60.

As i said, there is no such thing as a WH16NS60 SVC NS40. The real one would be SVC NS60. The same goes for the WH16NS55. The SVC code is NS55.
