Is the Asus sbw-s1 pro supported by libredrive

Post by Paule »

I can't find any info if it is supported nor if it's not supported.
Thanks.

If you're thinking "will it support UHD", the answer is an unqualified NO; it was built before the UHD specification existed.

Depending on the drive inside, it may be possible to use it a a LibreDrive for the other features of LD.

If you own it already, you can have MakeMKV look at its hardware and firmware and render a judgment. If you don't, it's probably not a good candidate to purchase.

Hi everyone,
I just came across an Asus SBW-S1 Pro and got it for dirt cheap mainly to use it as a sound card and headphone amplifier.
I figured I might as well post the drive information here since this device appears to be quite rare.
The label on the bottom says that it was manifactured in August 2015 and in the instruction it states that it can read/write TL and QL BD-R and RE.
I guess it might be compatible with BDXL bds but probably not with UHD bds since it's such an early production model.
In any case, this is the drive information I get from MakeMKV:

Drive Information
OS device name: I:
Manufacturer: ASUS
Product: SBW-S1
Revision: D104
Serial number: 4KAWA004419
Bus encryption flags: 1B
Highest AACS version: 78

For some reason I do not see any LibreDrive Information. What can be the reason for this?
I figured it could be because of the USB controller that this unit has, which probably does not let makemkv "talk" to the drive directly.
I just plugged it in without updating the driver/firmware, but if the usb controller is responsible it probably wouldn't change anything.
I could try and open up the device and see what's inside.
If you have any suggestion I will greatly appreciate it

The chip doesn't support neither Libredrive nor UHD.
