Hi ya'll.
So I'm new to this, just bought Pioneer BDR-XD08B with drive details below.
If it says LibreDrive enabled, does this mean I can start ripping 4K UHD discs? Or do I still need a separate firmware for my drive to do so.
Code: Select all
Drive Information
OS device name: D:
Manufacturer: PIONEER
Product: BD-RW BDR-XD08
Revision: 1.02
Firmware date: 2022-12-27
Bus encryption flags: 1B
LibreDrive Information
Status: Enabled
Drive platform: RS9330
Firmware name: PIONEER BDR-BDS8
Firmware type: Original (unpatched)
Firmware version: 1.02
DVD all regions: Yes
BD raw data read: Yes
BD raw metadata read: Yes
Unrestricted read speed: Yes
Thanks

This drive can't read 4K UHD discs as it is not a UHD model. It can't currently be cross-flashed with the available tools as the firmware is post 11/2022. Having libredrive enabled for standard blu-ray is the best this drive can get for now.
It may be possible in the future to cross-flash so check the forum every now and then for updates.
Cheers

Definitely still hang on to it though, because it's still a good drive. And I'm sure Mike is working on the problem too.

Nothing needs to be done. It is already ready to go. Just insert a UHD disc and rip it.

Will there be a chance in the near future to unlock BDXL drives, e.g. Pioneer BDR X13JBK, to read UHD formats? Is there anything more known yet?

Post your Makemkv info. If pre Dec. 2022 there is a chance.

I have the opportunity to purchase it. The firmware is 100% newer than 12-2022. I don't know what to do, hence my question.

Depending on the price, is probably worth the risk anyway, even if it can never be made to read UHD as it'd be a good blu-ray ripper regardless and near impossible to find.
