I have found the xd08 to be the most reliable yet over 500 sold in the last month not 1 bad or damaged in shipping
You and your UHD obsession. Not everyone wants or needs the latest and supposedly greatest. Build a bridge and get over it.

I don't give the north end of a furry little rodent how many sold in the last month; the two I got DID NOT WORK, most likely due to the incomplete information I had been given! And where did you get that figure? Pioneer stopped manufacturing all ODDs and I haven't been able to find any more where I can get them from.
This turns into a very funny thread. I like it! I didn't have a discussion about rattus rattus' rectum since my former boss always used this term 25 years ago. Another funny one was when customers requested a price down: "Which part of NO you don't understand?".

UHD has nothing to do with my hint that Billycar has sold tons of drives and none of them was defective. Unless you bought from a site that was very cheap and suspiciously cheap it is very unlikely that you received 2 defective drives. And again. You didn't tell us where you bought them.

You can still buy drives globally from Asmcom when his shop opens up again in February of 2026.

In the US you can buy from Billycar.

Calm down! Marty is one of the most respected people in the forum here and like said in my post above your last post YOU need to provide as much information as possible. Which you didn't do. So go back and question yourself before accusing others and especially accusing them to disrespect disabilities.

Merry Christmas!

Actually I did say where I got them: Adorama camera. And no one ever said I had to buy preflashed ones for them to work.

I will look into Asmcom next year. Funny that I never saw anyone refer to him before in these discussions.

I can't buy fromBillycar since he accepts payment only from PayPal. Besides not being able to use (or trust) PayPal anymore due to them now using texting for the second factor in 2FA (first, texting is not secure and second, I do NOT give out my cell phone number to anyone to keep my month bill down to a level I can afford; it's a flip phone on a monthly pay-as-you-go plan I keep only for emergencies and turn on only when I'm going to use, which is rarely), PayPal has been involved with numerous scandals since I handed them their walking papers.

Before someone accuses me of being a Luddite (which is not an accurate term for an alleged technophobe; look it up if you disagree), I don't use so called "smart" phones because they do not cost effectively benefit me and they are massive spyware tools that are far more difficult (as in almost impossible) to secure than computers. I don't need an electronic umbilical cord to lead a happy life or keep me amused.

Adorama camera is a good site and I bought my SLR there. They even made suggestions regarding the SD card I ordered with it since they thought it would not be compatible. It was anyway. But you can never be sure that people have defective things, order a new one and just return their defective ones.

Asmcom and Billycar are both suppliers who flash the drives and test them before shipping.

Generally, I think you are close to be paranoid regarding todays payments systems. But that's your choice and judgement.

Oh, really? These are the first few hits I got when I searched PayPal controversies:

https://lawyerinc.com/biggest-paypal-la ... y-history/

https://expertbeacon.com/why-is-paypal-so-bad/

https://projectmanagers.net/top-10-cons ... of-paypal/

These are from a search from PayPal Hacked:

https://www.forbes.com/sites/daveywinde ... er-attack/

https://www.pcworld.com/article/2896139 ... an-do.html

PayPal has been hacked more than once. This link was from 2023: https://cybernews.com/news/paypal-confi ... -affected/

PayPal isn't the only payment system out there. Sadly, many of the others are also pretty bad. Look at this about Zelle: https://www.cbsnews.com/news/zelle-frau ... -payments/

If you want to risk your money and identity, that's your choice and judgement.

Off topic. And like said almost paranoid. Now focus back on optical drives.

You really should have posted here when you had issues with the drive you very likely had a power issue or drive passthrough issue if your on Linux with a docker

As now likely 2 perfectly good pioneers will go to waste as retailer's just resell returns on bulk pallets most times and now these extremely rare drives likely will never live upto their full potential.

We definitely would have helped your troubleshoot them other than attacking Marty for recommeing you a perfect good drive.
