Solaris: Criterion Collection

Post by dj2hynes »

Hi everyone,

This is one disk that just refuses to rip for me. When I play it back though my AC Ryan, it plays
at a faster speed and the dialog sounds like a bunch of chipmunks talking. I thought it might be the size of the file, but I have plenty of other files just as big. Anyone know what the problem is?

The frame rate is correct. Can you play it with VLC on your computer?

I can play the video on vlc without the stutter and it has, obviously, no audio since it's LPCM.

Playing on my AC Ryan has the audio but the whole movie looks like it's running at a faster speed. Speed up voices and stuttering.

I will try and rip the whole disc and see if that works.

My only other alternative would be to buy a multi-region player I guess, or a PC. :(

@dj2hynes

Hi!

The following is noted at at least 4 review websites:
There is only one audio track on this Blu-ray disc: Russian LPCM 1.0. For the record, Criterion have provided optional English subtitles for the main feature.
Perhaps your problem is related to the SECOND audiostream noted by MediaInfo (English Single channel AC3).

Based on what you described, it sounds like someone made a less than perfectly successful effort to add a second audiostream...

I tried a complete disc rip instead of makemkv. Works perfectly, except the sound plays only on the left channel.

Anyone know how to rip a bluray iso on a mac? Seems my only solution now.

You can rip(back-up in this case) the BD with MakeMKV.

If you are trying to watch this movie using a Mac then MPlayerX will play back mono LPCM unlike VLC which will not unless it is stereo for some reason. http://mplayerx.org

Also worth a mention is MPlayer OSX Extended http://www.mplayerosx.ch and a fork https://sites.google.com/site/hermihg/ but these have not been updated in awhile.

Do you think there might be a problem with the player where you are playing it with background noises? Since it works with VLC, everything should be fine.Image
