Re: SDFtool Flasher
Hey Marty, I flashed my BU4ON to MK1.03 and it still works but when I insert a UHD disk the drive icon in makemkv just never stops spinning. I also tried flashing the BU4ON 1.00 and the buffalo BU firmware and I get the same result. do you have any advice? I tried it with two different UHD disks but that is all I have at the moment. One is a retail movie, and the other is the same movie decrypted on a verbatim BDXL M-disc.

2. Always let the os initialise the disc first, then open MakeMKV.
3.ensure MakeMKV has internet access so it can download the hashed keys database and updates as required.

Re: SDFtool Flasher
Just flashed my BP50NB40 to the BU40N 1.00 firmware, using the SDF GUI tool in Win11 with instructions provided previously. Ezpz.
Problem is, MakeMKV now reports "The program can't find any usable optical drives."
WTF?
after a power cycle, all seems to be well again. That was odd though.
It's now a full LibreDrive, yay!

Not able to download the latest SDFtool Flasher. Looks like the links are broken on the first page.
Planning to flash my drive tonight and purchase MakeMKV! Thanks much!

Hey Marty!
I've got a Verbatim 43888 That shows up as a Pioneer BRD-UD04. It hasn't been able to read any of the UHD disks that i've try to rip using it thus far. When I use the SDFtool Flasher to flash it to the BU40N_1.03_MK (22 Nov 2025) it gives me the "the drive you have selected does not have the correct drive platform (MT1959) and cannot be flashed" error. Not sure what to do!

Your drive is a Pioneer!! It is already UHD ready. There's no flashing it.Rogim807 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 26, 2025 11:09 pmHey Marty!

If it won't read UHD discs you have another issue.
1. Clean the discs
2. Always ensure you insert the disc and let the OS initialise it before opening MakeMKV.
3. Ensure the drive is getting enough consistent power. Use a USB-C port if possible, direct from the motherboard or USB 3+ ports direct from the motherboard, otherwise use an AC self-powered USB hub of at least 30w. Do not use case ports.
4. Ensure MakeMKV has internet access as it needs to be able to download the UHD hashed keys.
Try pasting MakeMKV's log window text when you attempt to rip a UHD disc.

This is your issue
Ensure that the checkbox to enable internet access is checked in MakeMKV preferences.
Something on your PC is geoblocking Russia (which is where the hashed keys are hosted). You might have to change your DNS servers and/or run MakeMKV through a VPN.
Cheers

Found the issue! I had region blocking enabled for a multitude of regions in my Unifi Dream Machine, I turned it off just to test and it worked! Thank you for the helpMartyMcNuts wrote: ↑Thu Nov 27, 2025 2:56 am

Thank you Marty, I really appreciate your reply.
I’ll use the LG BU40N 1.03mk. Is it simply ‘select drive’ “select write’ open this firmware from the pack and start?

Re: SDFtool Flasher
Hi, my newly purchased a Verbatim Slimline drive currently cant rip certain DVDs and 4k Blurrays. A few do work, but I mostly use this specifc drives for 4k Blurrays and none of them worked.
Now, first of all, I could not find out if this drive is encrypted, and neither certain if the flashing shown here will work to enable LibreDrive. I downloaded the "All you need firmware pack" and the SDF Tool flasher already. Within the Firmware pack is a LG Slim BU40N, I assume that is the firmware required for this specifc drive. Am I missing something or coud I get started flashing using the flasher with the LG Slim Bu40N Firmware to enable LibreDrive?
Furthermore, from the list of encryped firmware I am uncertain if this drive is in fact coming with an encrypted firmware because I could not find the exact same one in the list but similar enough.
Drive Information
OS device name: D:
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BD-RE BU40N
Revision: 1.05
Serial number: MO4P33E2415
Firmware date: 2124-04-23 13:47
Bus encryption flags: 17
Highest AACS version: 82
LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible, not yet enabled
Drive platform: MT1959
No disc inserted
Excuse me for the silly questions. I would prefer not to instantly brick my newly purchased drive, given I already own an other drive which is not for 4k Blurrays and just the normal resolution.
