i have moved to exclusively to pioneer xd08
as the other drives are now gone

I know that the S12 and S13 series, along with some of the 212 and 213 models, used glass lenses, but I'm unable to find any definite info as to whether the XD08 uses a glass lens or a plastic lens. Do you know?

If it does use a glass lens as the others, that's great, but if it uses a plastic lens I was wondering if you notice anything different from how the UBK you used to have read discs to how the XD08 you have now reads discs?

Yes the Xd08 has a Glass Lens & the XD08EMB-S, XD08UMB-S

The drive arrived today and ripping normal Blurays works fine. It can open 4K discs but as expected I cannot copy them with the original FW.

From the first post I read that I should flash this firmware:

BU40N on any Firmware directly to > BU40N 1.03MK

But further down below it says

LG 1.04+ / BU40N 1.03 / Asus 3.10+ and similar
The newer OEM firmwares cannot be flashed easily due to the additional downgrade checks

And mine is on FW 1.05 so it probably is encrypted?

I downloaded "The all you need firmware pack" and found the BU40N firmware. My flash command will look like this:

Just bought the Buffalo BRUHD-PU3-BK for my UHDs. After seeing a few Buffalo firmware options in the AYNeed pack v reco to use LG 1.03, I’m confused what to use, not done this before.

That's not a 43888. The 43888 has either a Pioneer UD04 or a LG BU40N. The other models, namely the 43889, 43890 have either the Pioneer UD03 or a LG BU40N.
