are these 2 drives the same?
trying to flash my WH14NS40 drives, but the "All You Need Firmware Pack" only has the "DE_LG_WH14NS40-NS50_1.02.bin" firmware file...is this safe to use on the standard WH14NS40?
WH14NS40-NS50 vs WH14NS40?

Re: WH14NS40-NS50 vs WH14NS40?
The difference is the SVC code written on the sticker on top of the drive.
The older NS40 with SVC NS40 would have the older MT1939 drive platform and is incompatible. It will be bricked if flashed. These are manufactured approx pre October 2015 although there does also appear to be some fakes coming from China with new labels on them, just to make things more confusing!
The newer NS40 with SVC NS50 has the more recent MT1959 drive platform and is compatible.
To see if your drive is compatible, the main things to check are:
Manufacture date after October 2015
Drive platform is MT1959
SVC code is NS50
If all 3 are not as above, your drive is not compatible.
Cheers

You need to look at the sticker label on top of the drive. You can also copy and paste the MakeMKV drive info and libredrive info sections so we can confirm that side for you.

OK, yep, all good. Although, I would have thought you'd flash them with the recommended WH16NS60 1.02-MK firmware?? It reads faster and removes the sleep bug.xunil76 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 16, 2025 11:13 pmall 4 successful (1 was May 2019 manufacture date, the rest were Feb):

Re: WH14NS40-NS50 vs WH14NS40?
Yeah, so long as the drive is compatoble (MT1959, SVC NS50+, manufactured after Oct 2015).
WH16NS60 1.02-MK is recommended for all 5.25" LG internal drives (WH14NS40, WH16NS40, BH16NS55 etc) and also the ASUS BW-161HT (which is a rebadged LG).
Cheers
