Somehow able to reach 7.6x read rate on BD-100 with Asus BW-16D1HT

Post by DoktorDread »

I am currently ripping my 4k copy of the Chernobyl miniseries using my BW-16D1HT in the Vantec enclosure, and I was pleasantly surprised to see the read rate hit a peak of 7.6x on disc 1, which is apparently a BD-100 disc. I didn't even think that kind of speed was possible with this drive while it was in the middle of a main feature rip, and haven't ever seen it go that fast on previous rips of BD-100s. All info I see online says it should top out around 6x. I did recently flash the firmware to 3.10 as the seller never did it for me like he was supposed to (just left it on 3.01 and I didn't notice till the other day). Has anyone else seen comparable speeds?

That's great. I've seen my LG WH16NS60 reach 11.4x or so on UHD 100GB discs. Your Asus, under the hood, is an LG WH16NS40 I think, so you may see faster rips yet.

I'm not sure if MakeMKV by default limits the read rate on that drive or not. But you might see even faster rips if you unchain the read rate. I find on my LG that it will either read the whole disc perfectly, at any speed, or won't read the disc at all (without threatening....er...coaxing it).

EDIT: Love your sig. ;)
