Re: SDF update November 2025
Thanks for the update Mike. I didn't try SDF 0x9a but 0x9b worked well with my BDR-XS08MB-S:
I've only performed a quick rip test with a single AACS 2.0 disc. Dump file generation was consistent with my older S13/XD07 Pioneer models and the rip itself went smoothly.

Re: SDF update November 2025
I'm a bit confused about what I'm supposed to do about getting the update to work. I don't see anywhere to paste the text block from the first post. I'm on a Mac.

Re: SDF update November 2025
You don't. You update to the latest sdf version. I have no idea how this works on Mac but on Windows, you download it and put it in the MakeMKV data directory and when MakeMKV is next started, it should be absorbed into _private_data.tar.TheThomasTrinity wrote: ↑Wed Nov 05, 2025 4:13 amI'm a bit confused about what I'm supposed to do about getting the update to work. Where do you download the sdf file? I don't see anything with that file extension in the MakeMKV folder.MartyMcNuts wrote: ↑Wed Nov 05, 2025 4:20 amYou don't. You update to the latest sdf version. Re: SDF update November 2025
It's not in the MakeMKV folder. You put it in MakeMKV's data folder. Check the location in MakeMKV's preferences.TheThomasTrinity wrote: ↑Wed Nov 05, 2025 4:36 amWhere do you download the sdf file? Re: SDF update November 2025
As MartyMcNuts said, if you have internet access disabled for MakeMKV, or if the auto-download is not working, you download the file from here: https://www.makemkv.com/svq/sdf.binTheThomasTrinity wrote: ↑Wed Nov 05, 2025 4:36 amWhere do you download the sdf file? On macOS, the default location for that file is in your home directory, "~/Library/MakeMKV/" . MakeMKV allows you to change the location of where it stores this file & other data. If you've changed that setting in the app Preferences, then the file would go wherever you told MakeMKV to store its data.
Thanks,
Frank
Re: SDF update November 2025
Automatic SDF download: MakeMKV is actually downloading data of the size of sdf.bin (1.9MiB), but then claims it cannot download it. The problem may not be downloading the data, but in whatever verification that MakeMKV does.
That said, once manually downloaded, it is incorporated into my _private_data.tar and MakeMKV runs.
Post running, my two pioneers have different results:

Re: SDF update November 2025
I hoped/expected this would work with this drive:
Drive Information
Manufacturer: ASUS
Product: BW-16D1X-U
Revision: E113
Serial number:
Firmware date: 2020-07-21
Bus encryption flags: 1B
Highest AACS version: 78
LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible, not yet enabled
Drive platform: Pioneer RS8F00
Firmware version: ID76
I see several "BW-16D1X-U", several "Pioneer RS8F00" & several ID76 on the list, but none with my combination & Revision "E113".
Drive has been power cycled. MakeMKV is not dumping the drive firmware to send or doing/recognizing anything special with the drive. If I insert a 4K/UHD, I hear the drive make a couple of attempts to do something, and then it ejects the disc.
If this should (eventually) apply to this model, please tell me how to dump the firmware & send it in (I can do this on macOS, Linux or Windows - preferably in that order...
).
Thanks,
Frank

Re: SDF update November 2025
Obviously if this new SDF allows it then you're all set but FYI I have 2 of those drives with the same E113 and Billy hooked me up with a flasher that enabled them both.nicholfd wrote: ↑Wed Nov 05, 2025 6:10 pmI hoped/expected this would work with this drive:

it would need to be crossflashed and that is not available to the the public and likely wont be because of the risks

Re: SDF update November 2025
That is a surprise. Pre-2022 drives are used as-is for UHD ripping, or so it's claimed elsewhere. I always thought the only reason newer drives couldn't be used for UHD was the lack of LibreDrive. I didn't realize they took all UHD away from them. I had always thought the X13 and S13 functionally identical.Billycar11 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 05, 2025 8:32 pmyour x13 is not a UHD drive

It's worth exactly nothing to me as it is, so if you have a solution, perhaps you can PM me. The risk at this point is worth it.
Re: SDF update November 2025
Hi
BDR-X13JBK cannot read UHD discs. Manual for this drive shows UltraHD logo, but this drive is not capable to read UHD discs unless its cross-flashed to other capable drive (for example X13J-S).

Added support for 6 new firmware versions.
DO NOT FORGET!!! - Please reboot your drive before using a new SDF.bin - close MakeMKV, unplug, power off, wait 5 seconds, plug again, start MakeMKV.
