The link to the Guide Coopervid posted includes links to the firmware you need and the GUI SDF tool that you can use on Windows to flash your drive. If you're on Mac or Linux, the Guide includes examples of the commands you need to run to flash your drive.

Just flashed my BW-16D1X-U with success, as of 10/22/2025 and I can now read UHD Blu-rays.

I'm not a crazy hardware guy either so thought I'd post what I learned while following different threads on this fourm.

Again I'm sort of a noob at this but got it working.

1. In the videos or forms, when they talk about Asus drives, I don't think it really matters what model of Asus drive you have as long as the drive platform is MT1959

2. Use the link to the SDFtool Flasher and the "All You Need Firmware Pack" at this link viewtopic.php?f=16&t=22896 Again there's only one Asus firmware found in the firmware pack.

3. The SDF flasher tool "READ" function didn't really yield me anything that I could use for the "RECOVER" function. I guess this is for something else. If the firmware didn't work, at the bottom of this page viewtopic.php?f=16&t=22896 there's a "p.s." section that has the old firmware. I never ended up trying it as I got it to work with the "firmware pack" files and I'm gonna call it good there.

4. Read all the forms that people link around to if you're not familiar with this kind of stuff like I am. This stuff is developing all the time and you're bound to run into dead threads

Useful links:
viewtopic.php?f=16&t=22896
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jyQV1aPlbow This one is old but I found it helpful. This seems to have been made before the SDFtool Flasher was created
The all you need firmware pack: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1HRnbXi ... sp=sharing

Again just posting this here as it worked for me. I'd definitely follow the main threads about flashing drives over what I'm saying :D
