New Pioneer and EEPROM flashing (xgecu T48)

Hi All,

Brand new to the forum. What a great resource. I really appreciate everyone's time and knowledge. I decided recently to start my journey in ripping my physical library and started reading up. One of the things I was reading was that the new Pioneer drive firmware prevents software flashing. I was curious if anyone has had a go at directly flashing the eeprom on one of these drives. I watched a teardown video and it looked like (at least on the model I was seeing) the eeprom was a fairly standard 8-pin chip and would be fairly easy to pull off the board and at least try to extract the firmware. If nothing else, I wondered if it would be helpful to anyone who on here who does firmware modification could use the bins. I was thinking about grabbing one of the new drives and seeing if I could be of any benefit to the community. If nothing else, it would be a fun exercise in firmware extraction and bin walking.

Yes, but we have also been assured that this will be remedied.

Right now for clarification: Mike only confirmed enabling Libredrive. We all hope that it will be extended to crossflash for UHD. This is not confirmed.

Yep, totally understand. It was more a question of it it would be helpful in developing a software solution or for someone who provides the flashing service for users who don't have/want the skills to do it themselves. I totally understand that this would not be something the average user would find useful.

Would anyone have a suggestion for a specific Pioneer drive model number? I have been mostly using the 5.25" drives but I can look at slim as well.

I know this may be of limited usefulness to everyone, but I am going to see what I can do anyway.

Well, there really aren't any currently compatible external slim models, besided the BDR-UD03 (in some of the Verbatim 43889 models).

If you are waiting on future support, try to find an actual UHD model such as the BDR-XS07UHD as cross-flashing the newer firmware versions may not be an option.

BDR-UD03 requires cross flashing to BDR-UD04, which is possible but will cost you. BDR-UD04s of course work fine.

The Pioneer 5.25" models are the real finds. BDR-S13___ and BDR-X13___ models will work. The S models are "internals" and need enclosures. The earlier S12 and X12 (and 11s) will work too, only minor differences. There are lots more internals made as OEMs, some work, some need cross flashing. I'd try and stick to the above if you can find. Cross flashing will complicate matters.

No worries. I apologize if I was out of line. I was just looking for a way that I might be able to contribute to the community. I hope it didn't seem like I was doing anything else. I'll play around and post just incase anyone finds the hardware side of it interesting.
