Sorry if I was not clear, my other drive is failing. The Pioneer is an old drive that I have which has never been flashed, and I don't know if it can be (to read UHD discs).

My current drive is
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BD-RE WH16NS60
Revision: 1.02
Bought a few years ago from someone on here (can't remember who). It works for a bit then starts to make grinding noises. I'm wondering if it is overheating.

Re: Ultimate UHD Drives Flashing Guide Updated 2025
Hey guys,
Forgive me if this question has been answered elsewhere, but I can't seem to find any documentation on it. Relative n00b here... I'm trying to flash a (supposedly) new ASUS BW-16D1HT, but the tool tells me the drive is not on the MT-1959 platform. This is a new one to me. I actually successfully flashed another one of these about six weeks ago. The present copy was built December '23 and ordered off Amazon (delivered unsealed, by the way). Windows Explorer recognizes the drive, but MakeMKV won't. I'm using a Vantec USB enclosure, if that makes any difference.
Any thoughts? Is the drive faulty, or the enclosure perhaps?
Thanks.

Re: Ultimate UHD Drives Flashing Guide Updated 2025
FWIW: A YouTuber I communicate with on the topic thinks the drive might be counterfeit and urged me to return it ASAP, which I will do. It's a shame, because I was hoping for some future proofing. It looks like they're running out of stock fast now.Mark Alexis wrote: ↑Fri Oct 24, 2025 12:31 amIt’s not even recognizing it. Trying to flash a BP50NB40. Firmware HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BP50NB40-NB50-1.03-NM00800-212005070917 was successfully flashed but trying to flash HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BP60NB10-1.02-NM00800-212005070935.bin, even though it says "done successfully" in the terminal does nothing. It will still show the BP50NB40-NB50-1.03 firmware in MakeMKV. I'm on macOS 26.
Tried using both
./makemkvcon f -d '/IOBDServices/identifier' -f /tmp/sdf.bin rawflash enc -i /tmp/HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BP60NB10-1.02-NM00800-212005070935.bin

I don't see any responses, yet, so... is MakeMKV installed (in the default location)?striven1981 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 23, 2025 2:38 pmIf you notice, the START & EXIT buttons have enlarged fonts & the word START is cut off.
When I click the Start button, nothing happens.
Anyone experience this? Any advice would greatly be appreciated!

Re: Ultimate UHD Drives Flashing Guide Updated 2025
If this drive is an Archgon, it cannot be flashed in the enclosure. You must remove the drive from the enclosure to flash it.d00zah wrote: ↑Thu Oct 30, 2025 1:08 amI don't see any responses, yet, so... is MakeMKV installed (in the default location)?striven1981 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 23, 2025 2:38 pmIf you notice, the START & EXIT buttons have enlarged fonts & the word START is cut off.
