Pioneer BDR-XD08B on Amazon
Can the Pioneer BDR-XD08B portable disc drive currently being sold on Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/PIONEER-External ... 1_1?sr=8-1) be used with LibreDrive or would it need flashing. I have two of the earlier BDR-XD07Bs and they have worked well for me but I need to get two more.

No, not currently. These will have to wait for future support.Lady Fitzgerald wrote: ↑Tue Sep 16, 2025 4:39 amCan the Pioneer BDR-XD08B portable disc drive currently being sold on Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/PIONEER-External ... 1_1?sr=8-1) be used with LibreDrive or would it need flashing. That was fast! Thanks!
Can you suggest something similar? I like the Pioneer's compact size for carrying in my laptop's case. I will use it for ripping CDs, DVDs, and BDs.

The only new Pioneer's that can currently be flashed are the 5.25" internal BDR-212DBK and BDR-212V.Lady Fitzgerald wrote: ↑Tue Sep 16, 2025 4:46 amThat was fast! Thanks!

If only ripping CD/DVD/BD and not UHD, then any blu-ray drive will work. It just won't have LibreDrive enabled.
If I was you, I'd wait a bit longer as apparently support for newer Pioneer drives may be coming very soon, maybe in the coming weeks! Then the XD08 will get libredrive support. Although, there is nothing stopping the XD08 from working now with CD/DVD/BD discs, just not UHD.
Cheers

Yeah, you can use it to rip CD/DVD/BD except for the newest AACS v82 as it will revoke the drive certificate. This is the main feature of LibreDrive. When enabled, MakeMKV doesn't care about any revoking and allows you to continue using the drive.Lady Fitzgerald wrote: ↑Fri Sep 19, 2025 3:00 amI'm a bit confused (I plead Old Timer's DiseaseMartyMcNuts wrote: ↑Tue Sep 16, 2025 5:11 am...If only ripping CD/DVD/BD and not UHD, then any blu-ray drive will work. Are you saying that if I bought the XD08s now, I will be able to rip, all CDs, DVDs, and BDs with the current version of MakeMK even though Libredrive won't be enabled? Is the possibly coming support for the newer Pioneer drives, including the XD08, going to be in the form of an update to MakeMKV or will it be the ability to flash the current XD08?
Don't know. Probably a firmware flash.

There was an update for MakeMKV (Linux Mint) recently. did that have any effect on the ability to flash the Pioneer BDR-XD08B?

Even with Pioneer LibreDrive enabled, on regular AACS v82 blu-ray, MakeMKV will not be able to decrypt the content unless keys are provided. Yes, currently MakeMKV cannot natively decrypt AACS v82 discs. Dumps must be submitted to svq@mamkemkv.com, just like we do for UHD discs. But, with libredrive enabled, if you happen to insert an AACS v82 disc and your certificate is revoked, you can still use the drive.tommik128 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 17, 2025 7:51 pmEven with Pioneer LibreDrive enabled, on regular AACS v82 blu-ray, MakeMKV will not be able to decrypt the content unless keys are provided.
