Post by Ratchet5500 »

I have Ripped 100s of Blu-rays from new releases to older ones with no trouble but this is the first one time i have ever got that the disk uses a newer version of AACS. So here is dump fail that MakeMKV made maybe some can do something with it.

Disk information
Label: THE_BAD_GUYS_2

Data capacity: 36.34 Gb
Disc type: BD-ROM
Number of layers: 2
Channel bit length: 74,5 nm (25.0 GB max. per layer)

here is the link to the tgz dump file and it should be set to anyone with a link can open it. if not please let me Know as i have not used google drive in years.

Did you email the dump to svq@makemkv.com?? If not, please do so, otherwise it will never get added to MakeMKV's internal hashed keys.
Cheers :D

I did click the link in MakeMKV program that said this disc uses a newer version of AACS protection. Please let us know about it visiting the link. The link was for makemkv website. I didn't email them yet though.

Have you tried downloading the latest KEYDB.cfg file, copying it into MakeMKV's data directory (i.e. where MakeMKV also writes its TGZ dump files) and restarting MakeMKV?

Any luck on this? I also ran into this issue with Bad Guys 2. I emailed the TGZ file previously and tried to update the keyDB file but no luck.

Well I tried the latest Keydb.cfg and no change I still get the same message saying the disk can't be decrypted. however I use Linux and once i renamed the file to KEYDB.cfg it was able to open the disk and save the video of the movie

Are you using a Windows based computer? I have downloaded multiple versions of the keydb.cfg file and MakeMKV still states that the disc uses a newer version of AACS. The most current keydb.cfg I have tried is 2025-10-12 16:18:41. It is almost as if MakeMKV is not seeing the file in the folder.

You have to be sure the file is in the right spot. Public KeyDB Disc Submissions has links to all the info you need.

I'm pretty sure after you update the keydb file you need to restart MakeMKV for it to see the changes.

Finally, it is not uncommon for a title to have multiple keys. Any individual disc will only need one key, but batch A of the discs might need key A where batch B of the discs might need key B. I do not know if that is the case for this movie. On the Public KeyDB thread, if you follow the link for SamuriHL's KeyDBTool for Windows (assuming you're on a Windows computer), and install that utility, it can help you know if the key necessary for your discs are in the keydb.
