Re: Ultimate UHD Drives Flashing Guide Updated 2025
Hello, I'm trying to rip some UHD Blu-rays and I'm stuck on a persistent issue with my drive.
My goal is to flash my LG BP60NB10 drive to enable LibreDrive and rip UHD discs.
My Setup:
Drive Model: HL-DT-ST BD-RE BP60NB10
Firmware Version: 1.02 (Original)
Operating System: macOS
Tool: makemkvcon via Terminal
The Problem:
I have successfully flashed my drive multiple times. Each time, the terminal output shows Done successfully, confirming that the flashing process has completed.
However, when I check the drive information in MakeMKV, it still reports Firmware support: No and Firmware type: Original. The drive consistently fails to enter LibreDrive mode.
What I have tried so far:
Multiple Firmware Files: I have tried flashing with different firmware files, including those labeled as UHD-friendly and MK firmware from the forums.
Disconnect/Reconnect: After each successful flash, I have completely unplugged the drive from my Mac and plugged it back in.
Drive Identifier: I have verified the correct drive identifier using makemkvcon f -l before each flashing attempt.
Dump File Submission: I submitted a dump file to the forum, but was told it was useless because LibreDrive was not activated.
I am puzzled as to why my drive's firmware status remains "Original" despite the successful flashes. Am I missing a crucial step for macOS? Is there a specific firmware file for this drive model that I should be using? Or could this be a hardware-related issue?

I have tried again with the 'enc' flag as you suggested.
I used the following command:
./makemkvcon f -d '/IOBDServices/AFC9B139' -f /private/tmp/sdf.bin rawflash main enc -i /private/tmp/HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BP60NB10-1.02-NM00800-212005070935.bin
The terminal showed Done successfully once again.

the SDF thread has this in it:
Code: Select all
For the moment, to flash the BP50NB40 SVC:NB52, using the latest SDFtool Flasher, follw the steps below:
1. Flash the drive to BP50NB40 (NB50) 1.03-MK.
Now for the crossflash:
2. Select the RECOVERY option and in the pop up, select the BP50NB40 (NB50) 1.03-MK firmware that you just flashed.
3. Select the BP60NB10 1.00-MK or BU40N 1.00 firmware in the normal drop box.
4. Click START

the SDF thread has this in it:
what is the difference between the WP40NB50 and the BP40NB50? I can't for the life of me find what is different between them. It seems like they use the same firmware upgrade path regardless of which one you get, but i want to make sure i'm not conflating 2 separate things.Code: Select all
For the moment, to flash the BP50NB40 SVC:NB52, using the latest SDFtool Flasher, follw the steps below: 1. Flash the drive to BP50NB40 (NB50) 1.03-MK. Now for the crossflash: 2. Yes you can use SDFTool Flasher if you are using 64 bit Windows 10 or 11. I recommend using the BU40N 1.00 firmware as it is compatible with all good ripping software. Just follow the instructions exactly and watch the gif a few times if needed.
Cheers
